Notable Dates
1900 | Edwin Herod, full back 1928-1931, born. |
1921 | Spurs win the Charity Shield for the first time. |
1987 | Spurs were overwhelming favourites against a Sky Blues side that had not
won a major trophy in their history, but not much went Tottenham's way
that day starting with the fact that when the players came out for the
game, some had new shirts with and some without the sponsor's (Holsten)
name on !! However, once the match had started, Spurs settled well
and took a second minute lead when Waddle's cross was headed in by Clive
Allen. Coventry equalised, but when a ball was bouncing around in
the Coventry box went in, but whether it went in off Mabbutt or Kilcline,
no-one was sure although Mabbs was awarded the goal later. That
was just before half-time and it looked as though Spurs had taken the
initiative, but Coventry winger Dave Bennett gave Mitchell Thomas a
torrid time and When Keith Houchen went horizontal to score a fine
diving header, the match was destined for extra time. Into the
later stages of the match a cross from the Coventry right hit Mabbutt's
outstretched leg and ballooned up and over Clemence, who was unable to
reach it and Coventry went on to win the Cup. For Spurs (and Clive
Allen, who had scored 50 goals), there was to be no silverware, but
Holsten probably got more advertising out of the shirt fiasco than they
would have even if Tottenham had won !!
The FA Cup Final was also Glenn Hoddle's last game for Spurs. |
1999 | The last match of Andy Sinton's Spurs career. |
2005 | Spurs sign Canadian international full back Paul Stalteri from Werder Bremen. |
2009 | Tottenham create a new club record for the fewest home goals conceded in a league season of 10. |
