1977 Spurs were virtually doomed to Second Division football and this match confirmed that.  With the home side looking to try and displace Liverpool at the top of the table, the game went with the form book and Tottenham's relegation was a fact.
1984 Spurs biggest away defeat at Southampton.  Spurs were just two days away from the first leg of the UEFA Cup Final, but the League said they had to fulfill this fixture.  Therefore, it was a mainly reserve side that too to the field.  

Robert Brace made his only appearance for the Spurs first team in this match.  A number of players made their last appearance in a Spurs shirt in this game, namely Alan Brazil, Allan Cockram, Gary O'Reilly and Ian Culverhouse.
