COMPETITION League Cup Round 3
DATE Wednesday 23rd September 2015
VENUE White Hart Lane
PREVIEW

With Per Mertesacker returning from illness and Gabriel having his red card from Saturday over-turned, the Arsenal side that turns up at White Hart Lane will be a strong one for all Wenger's talk about rotation.  He will load his bench with experience, just in case he needs it.

With a few players injured and Cazorla out suspended, there will have to be changes, but you can bet that the Arsenal manager will be keen to keep the bulk of his first team in the starting XI to ensure they have a good chance of winning this League Cup tie.  David Ospina might feature in goal, but with Gibbs and Chambers likely to feature on the flanks, the defence won't be too week, but how they deal with Heung-Min Son will be a factor in the outcome of the match.

Spurs will probably start with Townsend on the right to give Gibbs a test, while Lamela will be on the left and Alli/Eriksen might feature in the middle.  It depends whether Poch wants to rest Alli or give Christian a run out, with Alex Pritchard still not match fit, as he might have been a prime candidate for a game here.

Arsenal's midfield will probably contain Ozil, Walcott, Arteta, Flamini and Ramsey, as Wenger will want to make sure that there is plenty for Spurs to do to get through that lot.  However, with our own tough midfield, the match could develop into a battle there.  I don't think it will, as the prospect of extra time will not be welcomed by either side and games between the two sides have been fairly open in recent years.

With Spurs looking to get Harry Kane back on the score-sheet, it might leave the way open for others, as Arsenal concentrate on the England striker and having seen the Woolwich Wanderers taken apart by Dinamo Zagreb already this season, it has shown that there are weaknesses in their second string players.

The early season meeting of the two sides shouldn't affect the ferocity of the match, but with Arsenal having had three red cards in the last two matches, they might be a little more cautious, although once the whistle blows, that thought will leave their mind.  I think it will be a tight game, but there will be chances and Tottenham are looking like a side who are ready to take theirs.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS :
Alex Pritchard is still missing with his ankle problem and a similar injury rules out Nabil Bentaleb.  Mousa Dembele (foot) and Ryan Mason (knee) might not be risked if they are not 100%.
ARSENAL TEAM NEWS :
Santi Cazorla misses the match after picking up red cards on Saturday at Chelsea, while Francis Coqeulin picked up a knee injury and will not be considered for this match.  Danny Welbeck has a long standing knee injury, while Jack Wilshire is unsurprisingly sitting on the sidelines with this time a broken shin.  Tomas Rosicky is still at the Gooners, but is still crocked, with a knee knack.  Gabriel and Mertesacker will be in the line-up, as the Brazilian had his red card over-turned and the German has overcome an illness.

PUB FACT*

Arsenal were the only team to go through the 1990s without one of their squads through those years not getting sent off.

They are hopeful of repeating this feat again this decade.
