Tottenham lost to Arsenal 1-3 after extra time in the second leg of the League Cup semi-final tonight.  The score after 90 minutes was 1-1.  Match report and reaction to follow.
TRANSFER DEADLINE DAY.  Here we go again and here are all the moves that HAVE taken place.  Reto Ziegler has moved to Italian side Sampdoria on loan until the end of the season and Leicester City have taken Mark Yeates on a similar arrangement.
Ahead of the transfer deadline, Spurs were being linked with all nature of players.  £4 million for Marlon Harewood was the most worrying.  Surely we would be better off keeping Mido, who was being touted as moving to anywhere between Celta Vigo and Manchester City.  He must think the light blue shirt makes him look slim.  Not content with spending money on strange signings, Teddy Sheringham was lined up for a return to White Hart Lane for the third time as a stand-in for Berbatov.  Hardly fits in with snapping up the best of young English talent does it.  but that goes for Harewood too.  Young Welsh talent will also not be coming to the Lane, as Gareth Bale wants to stay at SCBC.  Well, his advisors want him to stay at SCBC until the summer, when no doubt he will move to Manchester United.

It is reported that Ledley King will have a scan on his injured foot with concerns that it might be a broken bone in his foot rather than just bruising.
At the Spurs AGM, chairman Daniel Levy said that the club are always looking at ways to expand capacity, whether that be by extending White Hart Lane or moving to a new ground.  However, the top man at Spurs did add that any decision would not have a negative effect on the financial stability of the club.

The Sunday People run a report that Tottenham want to re-sign striker Peter Crouch from Liverpool.  Having agreed to sell Mido to Manchester City (where chairman John Wardle is paying out of his own pocket for the striker), Spurs have decided that the tall England front man is the player they want to lead the line.  The same newspaper reckons that Edgar Davids and Martin Jol had to be pulled apart in a training ground bust-up that signalled the end of the Dutch midfielder's career at White Hart Lane.  Other front men being touted as possible signings should we fail to secure Crouch are Everton's James Beattie for £4.5 million (!!) according to the News of the World and Aston Villa's Juan Pablo Angel.  Former Spurs defender Colin Calderwood wants to take striker Mark Yeates on loan until the end of the season, the News of the World tell us.  Meanwhile back to the Gareth Bale transfer saga, the Mail on Sunday claim that his club have given him 72 hours to decide what he intends to do.  The Sunday Mirror have news that Newcastle United are dropping out of the race to sign Derby County youngster Giles Barnes, leaving Liverpool and Everton in the picture, but Spurs are thought to be the favourites.  However, it is thoguht that the deal will not be done until the summer, as the Rams are keen to push for promotion to the Premier League.  The Mirror also reckon that the search for a left winger will end with a bid for Celta Vigo's Brazilian Nene.
Ledley King appears to be out of Wednesday's League Cup semi-final as he has had pain in his bruised foot and will undergo another scan on it before the medical team decide what further treatment he might need.

Spurs have received a bye from UEFA in the Round of 32 because of Feyenoord's expulsion from the competition after their fans rioted at a group game with Nancy of France.  The bye is subject to the Dutch club's appeal against the decision though.
Derby County want Tottenham banned from the transfer market because they claim they are due a payment of £150,000 for part of the deal for Tom Huddlestone, but Spurs reckon that there was a agreement to waive the payment for the Rams taking Mounir El Hamdaoui on loan.  However, there appears to be no written record of this agreement.  The club issued a statement on the official website saying the amount was £50,000 and was involved in payments over the loan of El Hamdaoui, but both parties were trying to resolve the issue.  Guess that means we won't be getting Giles Barnes then ??
Some papers claim that Tottenham are favourites to sign SCBC's 17 year old Welsh left back Gareth Bale, but might have to wait until the end of the season.  He has had two days of talks with Spurs and seems to be set to have a regular first team place next season with a sliding scale salary, whereas he might not get that at Manchester United, while Arsenal are said to be entering the race for the Welsh international.  Some reports claim that Tottenham might sign him now and loan him back to SCBC until the end of the season, while others say he will not leave until the summer anyway.  Celta Vigo are telling the media that Tottenham are trying to sell Mido, but the price is one they cannot afford, so they might take him on loan.  This follows reports yesterday that Manchester City are interested in the Egyptian striker.

The Daily Mirror claim that Martin Jol had made a £2.5 million offer for Benfica's Ricardo Rocha (with Sky Sports website saying it is nearer £3.2 million) and is also after Birmingham City's Matthew Upson and West Bromwich Albion's Curtis Davies to replace Calum Davenport.  They report that Daniel Levy is in Lisbon trying to tie up the deal before the end of the weekend.  The Mirror also reckon that Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has made a £3 million bid for Teemu Tainio.  Spurs are said to be one of a host of clubs interested in 16 year old James McCarthy of Hamilton Academicals.

The Daily Express reports that despite Charlton Athletic putting an £18 million price on striker Darren Bent and Chelsea West Ham United and Liverpool being interested, the England international would favour a move to Tottenham, who are preparing a bid of Calum Davenport plus cash for the striker.  the Daily Mirror reckon Spurs are favourites to sign Watford winger Ashley Young, but Wayne Routledge will not be involved in the £4 million deal to bring him to White Hart Lane.  The Sun have Tottenham down as being in the race for Shaun Wright-Phillips, the Chelsea winger, in what is perhaps a cunning ruse by THFC to sign up all the young English wide-men in the country.  The Mirror further suggest that Tottenham and Bolton Wanderers will be top of the suitors for midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker, who is expected to leave Upton Park next week.

Thanks for the Cardiff fan who sent this in ...
I am Cardiff I would avoid all the pubs in the centre on Sunday especially the Prince of Wales.  It will be rammed with our loonies from early doors;  it's nearest to the station so be warned.   Also avoid drinking in the Canton area as again it will be full of City loonies, they see Spurs as fair game and are a law unto themselves.  The bigger games at Ninian are very dodgy and if anyone is looking for it they will find it.  Have a safe and good day out.

MEHSTG's spin story ... Frank Lampard has denied Chelsea are suffering a mid-season slump.  "There is nothing major wrong. Because people are asking questions after two or three draws is a statement about what a team we are and what a squad we are.  After all, we are more used to losing to Tottenham these days, so a draw with Reading and then Aston Villa are good results for us.  It is certainly not a crisis. It is something we need to address because we are not used to drawing games and not getting three points for three games on the trot.  Now we are happy with three points from three games.  But, we are used to winning games and we want to win games again one day."
