The move for Hertha Berlin defender Gilberto was thought to
have fallen through after a fee was agreed for the 31 year old
Brazilian, but it was reported that he had failed a second medical
at the club. However, later in the
evening, his transfer was completed by Spurs. The club
clarified that there was no problem with his medical, but he will
only be available after his international clearance papers come
through.
One late deal that went through was the

I would not be surprised if it was about the amount he was to be

Paul Robinson has told the Daily Mirror that he feels that a

been

confirmed that he had not put in a transfer request, but that if he
did not play between now and the end of the season, then he may have
to reassess his situation, but he was doing his best in training to
get back into the team and displace the manager's selection of
Radek Cerny. The Spurs keeper also added that he did not

playing for his club side.

You may or may not be aware that
a "monoline" financial company (AMBAC Financial Group Inc of which
AMBAC Assurance Limited is part) was downgraded in the US on Friday.
The implications are quite substantial and this was all part of the
problem causing stock markets to fall sharply on Monday. The
knock-on effect of this is that this company insures long term bonds
(paper issued to raise finance). Any bonds insured by them are
also at risk of being downgraded making life much more difficult for
the owners and eventually the issuer. What has all this to do

This press release from July

are linked with a race with Manchester City and Real Madrid for the
£10 million rated Toulouse striker Johan Elmander and are
also credited with links for Seville's striking duo Fredi Kanoute
and Alexander Kerzakhov. However, after Ramos'
departure, the Spanish side are reluctant to play ball over letting
their players head to N17, so Tottenham might turn their attention
to Mallorca's 28 year old forward Dani Guiza. Spurs are also
linked with an interest in Spanish Marc Torrejon Moya, as are
Manchester City (as always). The News of the World says that
Wayne Routledge is wanted by Crystal Palace manager Neil
Warnock to return to his former club. Sunderland, Everton,
Fulham and Wigan Athletic have all joined Tottenham in contacting
Bayern Munich about their Belgian central defender Daniel van
Buyten joining them on loan until the end of the season

Newspaper reports indicate that Spurs might be ready to sell Paul
Robinson for £5 million according to the Independent, as he
demanded a move after being left out of Wednesday's League Cup
semi-final first leg game at Highbury, the Daily Mail say. The
Sun claim that Spurs will move for West Ham United keeper Robert
Green, who will cost them £6 million. Olympique Lyonnais
have said that they have received bids from clubs such as
Portsmouth, Paris St. Germain and another club, believed by the
papers to be Spurs, who have the biggest bid at £11 million for the
24 year old Fred and the club are leaving it to him to decide
which team he wants to join. A number of sources reckon Spurs
are close to sealing a transfer to White Hart Lane for Middlesbrough
left winger Stewart Downing, for anywhere between £8 million and £10
million plus Teemu Tainio heading to Teesside.

Tottenham's away leg in the Round of 32 tie
against Slavia Prague has been moved from Wednesday 13th February to
Thursday 14th February, kicking off at 9:00 p.m. Prague time.
Differing views over Paul Robinson's future at Tottenham
abound in the papers today, with some claiming he will be on his way
out after a dressing room bust-up with Juande Ramos just
moments before the game last night, when he found out that he had
been dropped. Other sources report that Ramos has said that
the England keeper does have a future at the club and the only
reason that Radek Cerny was playing last night was to give a
squad member an opportunity of a game.
At last there is some movement in the
transfer window, with full back Phil Ifil joining Colchester
United for an undisclosed fee, believed to be over £350,000 if
certain conditions are met. Also, goalkeeper David Button
has gone on loan to Grays Athletic for a month.
Pascal Chimbonda's agent, yes him again, has told the Press
that the full back would be happy to make a switch to Villa Park, as
he has been told that he will not be part of Juande Ramos'
future for the club. Martin O'Neill, the Villa boss, is
considering a £15 million offer for Chimbonda and Jermain Defoe.
A number of papers report that Tottenham will have talks with
Olympique Lyonnais' striker Fred, who might cost £11 million,
as a possible replacement for Dimitar Berbatov, should he leave the
club. Middlesbrough are having talks with the Brazilian before
he heads for discussions with Spurs and our club is also being
linked with a move for Boro left winger Stewart Downing
(again), although his club say there has been no contact.
Later in the day, the Sky Sports website claimed that Spurs had
dropped out of the talks with Fred over financial demands, leaving
Paris St. Germain and Boro to fight over him. Toulouse have
revealed that Spurs have contacted them about their Swedish
international forward Johan Elmander. Apparently, just
before leaving the club, Sam Allardyce agreed a £5.5 million fee fro
Arsenal midfielder Lassana Diarra and the player is holding
fire on the move, as he wants to see if Tottenham will match the
Geordie's bid. Internazionale has withdrawn any interest in
former Chelsea and Portugal midfielder Maniche, leaving Spurs
in prime position if they wish to move for the 30 year old Atletico
Madrid, so say the Daily Mirror.
The Sun reports that Juande Ramos has
received a writ from Seville demanding £2.2 million.
Dimitar Berbatov has been named as

Spurs Youth progressed to the Fourth Round
of the FA Youth Cup with a 2-1 win over Chester City at White Hart
Lane tonight. The goals came from Danny Rose and a
David Hutton penalty.
Jermain Defoe has revealed that Juande Ramos has told
him that he can leave the club if he wishes. The striker was
expecting to be told that he was starting against Arsenal in the
League Cup semi-final, but was shocked when given the news.
However, he said he has never stated he wanted to leave the club and
will stay and fight for his place because he loves it at White Hart
Lane. Aston Villa are believed to want to offer him an escape
route should he require one.
Rumours surrounding a further Tottenham move for Glasgow Rangers
defender Alan Hutton are circulating. Having turned
Spurs down, the story goes that the club have returned
with an improved financial package for the full back and he is
considering it. However, the news on the BBC website says that
Tottenham have stated they have no further interest in the player
and Rangers manager Walter Smith said he knew nothing about the new
offer. The Times say that the Scottish club want Hutton to go,
but others say he will once more frustrate Spurs' efforts to tempt
him South. The Daily Telegraph catches up with the weekend's
news by saying that Ramos will make Tal Ben Haim of Chelsea
his first signing for £8 million, while he is considering a £9
million move for midfielder Tiago of Juventus.
Apparently, Edgar Davids has given the benefit of his
experience at Tottenham to full back Urby Emanuelson and told
him that he is a talented player who only needs to go to the top
clubs in England, Italy or Spain ... so he might as well forget
joining Spurs. Bitter or what ?? Out of contract in the
summer, Aston Villa's 30 year old Danish defender Martin Laursen
has said he would be interested in a move to Spurs or Newcastle
United if they wanted him.

Dimitar Berbatov has come out and said that he is annoyed
about comments about his future being made and quotes that are
attributed to him that he has not made. The Bulgarian striker
said it was starting to affect his game and he just wanted to play
football and win things with Tottenham. He believes that can
be achieved at Spurs and rates Juande Ramos as a good man and a good
coach, who can see details that others cannot see. Dimitar
also said he is not worth the sums of money being linked with a
potential transfer away from White Hart Lane.
Spurs have been drawn away to Manchester United in the FA Cup Fourth
Round, should they get past Reading in the Third Round replay.
The Sun claim that Ramos wants to buy
Chelsea's Israeli defender Tal Ben Haim for £8 million !!
Is he sure ?? The Times seem to think that Spurs will be back
in for Alan Hutton, believing they can somehow persuade him that an
£8 million transfer is the right move for him, although that was
what he turned down last week. Pascal Chimbonda might
be on his way out of the club after he is reported to have laughed
when asked to play in central defence and with Chris Gunter
signed and rumours linking Spurs with Hutton and other right sided
defenders, he is getting a bit worried. Well that's what the
Daily Mail say. Not worried enough to be thinking that if
Spurs offered him the right contract that he would sign it, TeamTalk
tell us. Chelsea and Spurs are keen on Barcelona's former
Juventus defender Gianluca Zambrotta, the Times tell us, as
well as Spurs going in for Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson,

Manchester United are making Dimitar Berbatov their main
transfer target, but do not want to be held to ransom by Spurs,
so says the Mail on Sunday, but the Sunday Express claims that
Tottenham have already lined up Toulouse striker Johan Elmander
as his replacement. Other papers claim Chelsea will bid £32
million for the Bulgarian and Manchester United will offer us all
sorts of player + cash deals for the forward. The People
reckon the Chelsea deal is supposed to be ready to go through in
January and the money is to be paid up front, leaving Juande
Ramos with a huge pot of money to spend, with Elmander and
David Villa of Valencia lined up. However, the News of the
World reports that an "insider" at the club has revealed that
Berbatov had better get used to White Hart Lane, as Daniel Levy
has no intention of letting him go this transfer window and having
signed a four year deal with a two year option that Spurs can
trigger, they have no need to sell him, especially as there is a
healthy set of books showing the money is not what is needed.
Also on the striker front, the same newspaper reveals that
Jermain Defoe is set to sign a new five year deal at the club,
which would effectively double his salary. The Express also
claim that if talks do not progress at Middlesbrough about Stuart
Downing's contract, the Teesside club might sell him,
with Everton and Spurs leading the chase for the winger.
Tottenham have asked QPR to double their £1.5 million bid for
Wayne Routledge. The News of the World list the players
due in the January clear-out at the lane including Hossam Ghaly
(who the People claim is having work permit trouble in his move to
Derby County), Paul Stalteri (who might go back to the German
Bundesliga) and Wayne Routledge, who interests his old club
Crystal Palace. West Ham United want to take Darren Bent
on loan for the rest of this season, but they are likely to be
unlucky with their wish according to the People. The Observer
has Spurs looking to Lyon for a new striker, with Fred an
option at £9 million, as he is out of favour at the French club,
partly because the other new sensation Karim Benzema has
ousted the tall Brazilian and Tottenham are also keen on the 20 year
old. The broadsheet also claims that Spurs will move for
former Liverpool forward Djibril Cisse of Marseille, but
Portsmouth, Bolton Wanderers, Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City
are also watching the man who had two broken legs while at Anfield.
The Sunday Mirror says that both Spurs and West Ham United are
looking at former Chelsea midfielder Tiago Mendes, now with
Juventus, where the Portuguese player has failed to make an
impression. Middlesbrough
are said in the News of the World to contest the signing of Atletico
Madrid's Portuguese midfielder Maniche with Spurs.
As a result of yesterday's draw in the FA Cup, the replay will be at
the Madejski Stadium on Tuesday 15th January with a 8:00 p.m. kick

Spurs were being linked to a move for 23 year old Glasgow Rangers

that the Scot had decided not to make the move in the January

we will wait and see.
The Independent reports that Tottenham have issued Jermain Defoe
an ultimatum to sign a new contract or to be sold within the next

with Manchester United and Chelsea both linked today, while
Juande Ramos was realistic enough to state that every player has
