   IT WAS TRANSFER DEADLINE DAY AND HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED FOR SPURS ...
   Lewis Holtby has moved to Fulham on loan until the end of the season.
   Tottenham were said to be keen on hijacking Liverpool's move for Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk attacking midfielder Yehven Konoplyanka, but were said to have dropped out of the running for the player by mid-afternoon.
   Manchester United were reported to be planning a £20 million "swoop" for Andros Townsend, but the move did not materialise.  With Spurs rumoured to be interested in Manchester United winger Nani, a swap deal was reported as being on, but nothing came of it
   Nacer Chadli was rumoured as interesting Everton and Swansea City, with a loan to the Swans cleared by Tottenham, but the Belgian chose to stay at White Hart Lane.
   Former Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov was rumoured as a Spurs target in this window, but ended up joining AS Monaco on loan.
   Harry Redknapp tried to return to Tottenham to take Jermain Defoe on loan to QPR late in the day, having got agreement from Toronto FC, but Daniel Levy refused to allow the move.
   A late move for Fiorentina defender Stefan Savic was mooted, but came to nothing.
   Links with a move for Lille striker Salomon Kalou ended when the club said he was staying in France until the summer.
   Former Spurs keeper Ben Alnwick has joined Leyton Orient from Charlton Athletic for an undisclosed fee.
   Boreham Wood signed former Spurs reserve striker Kudos Oyenuga on loan from Dundee United until the end of the season.

Away from the madness of the transfer window
   TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : -  Jan Vertonghen, Paulinho and Younes Kaboul all return to the squad for the trip to Hull City.  They are joined by Danny Rose, who had his red card from Wednesday night rescinded, freeing him to playa t the KC Stadium.  Still out are Andros Townsend and Erik Lamela, who are both not training regularly yet, although are not far off returning to action.

   Young defender Ryan Fredericks has signed a new deal keeping him at Tottenham until the summer of 2016 and he has extended his loan with Millwall until the end of the season.

   Spurs Youth lost out in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup, being knocked out 2-3 by Fulham at Dagenham & Redbridge tonight.  Josh Onomah and Nathan Oduwa scored the goals for Tottenham.
   Former Spurs midfielder Adel Taarabt has gone out to AC Milan on loan for the rest of the season from QPR.
   Former Spurs youth winger Danny Stevens re-signs for Torquay United after being released by the club in the summer.

   Tottenham lost 1-5 to Manchester City at White Hart Lane tonight.  For a match report, click here.
   Spurs were the victims of an attempted fraud when a Croatian man offered FC Twente Enschede striker Luc Castaignos to the club, saying he had documents from the club's director to allow his to act to sell the Dutch Under-21 striker.  When Spurs contacted the Dutch club, they knew nothing of this and reported the matter to the Dutch FA and UEFA.

        Southampton (home) moved to Sunday 23rd March kicking off at 13:30

   Heurelho Gomes, the forgotten goalkeeper at Spurs, could be on his way to PSV Eindhoven, although the details are not sure, he posted a photo of himself on Instagram with the message that he was off to the Dutch club.
   Rumours are that Franco Baldini has gone to Italy to secure a couple of signings before the transfer window closes.  Internazionale's Fredy Guarin and Juventus striker Marco Vucinic are the two players heavily linked with Tottenham..
   Everton are rumoured to be interested in signing Nacer Chadli, with their left sided midfielder Bryan Oviedo breaking his leg last night in the FA Cup tie at Stevenage.

   Tottenham Head Coach Tim Sherwood is being strongly linked with a move for Internazionale striker Domenico Berardi.  The 21 year old is currently on loan at Sossuolo and scored four goals in a recent game against AC Milan. 
   Italian news sources claim that Fiorentina are keen to sign Younes Kaboul, while Jan Vertonghen allegedly tweeted last night that he had just touched down in Florence, but the reason why he was there was unclear.
   Spurs are also being linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus, costing £28 million.  Manchester United and a host of other clubs are also keen on the German international.
   Another forward who Spurs are supposed to have an interest in is Iker Muniain of Atheltic Bilbao.  The 21 year old has dropped out of favour and is being linked with a move away from the Europa League holders.
   Rumours are gathering pace that Spurs might make a loan move for Barcelona's Dutch winger Ibrahim Affelay.
   Tottenham are also being linked with Burnley's young striker Danny Ings, with £6 million believed to be enough to capture the former Bournemouth goal-scorer.
   The Daily Mirror claims that PSV Eindhoven have joined the chase for Lewis Holtby, with a permanent deal on the cards, after a bid to take him on loan was refused by Spurs.  Holtby's former club Schalke 04 are interested, but may not be able to meet Tottenham's valuation for the German midfielder.
   Tottenham's Under-18s drew 2-2 with West Bromwich Albion at Hotspur Way today in the FA Premier Under-18 League, with Anthony Georgiou scoring twice.
   Former Spurs striker Lee Barnard has joined Southend United on loan from Southampton.

   The Daily Express claims Spurs have made a £8.2 million offer for Internazionale attacking midfielder Fredy Guarin.  With other big clubs across Europe interested in the Colombian international, the bidding could get pushed higher and it may be a test of how much money might be available for transfers.
   The Daily Mail have Tottenham down as being interested in Ipswich Town left back Aaron Cresswell, with the 24 year old becoming a hot property, as three other Premier League clubs are watching his situation.

   Young midfielder Alex Pritchard is reported as being a loan target for Huddersfield Town for the remainder of the season after his spell at Swindon Town.

   Spurs are being linked to a number of strikers in the papers today, including Goran Pandev of Napoli, Salomon Kalou of Lille, Dimitar Berbatov of Fulham and Benfica's 30 year old Oscar Cardoza.
   Tottenham have also been linked in the media with Atletico Madrid full back Toby Alderweirld, who only joined the Spanish outfit in the summer from Ajax.  The Belgian defender has not settled in Spain and has not been playing regularly, so may welcome a move away to get some playing time with the World Cup Finals approaching.  A fee of £6.1 million has been quoted should Spurs want to link him up with former Ajax team-mate Jan Vertonghen.
   Spurs have also been linked with a move for Manchester City's Micah Richards.
   Stoke City are said to be interested in Tottenham midfielder Lewis Holtby.
   Former Spurs striker Mido has taken over as manager of Egyptian club Zamalek, becoming the youngest ever manager in the country at the age of 30.

   Ossie Ardiles sustained an injury requiring 20 stitches after a car he and Ricky Villa were travelling in overturned in the Falkland Islands.  Both former Spurs players are well and were in the Falklands making a TV documentary.
   The Daily Mirror claims that Tim Sherwood is not so keen on Dimitar Berbatov returning to White Hart Lane.
   In France, the press in the shape of Le Figaro reckon Tottenham might seize on the hesitancy of Juventus in signing midfielder Fredy Guarin from Internazionale.
   Three Spurs fans will face prosecution by the Metropolitan Police over the use of the Y word at Tottenham games at White Hart Lane against FC Sheriff and West Ham United.


   OTHER NEWS ... Blackpool manager Paul Ince was sacked today ... 


   MEHSTG's no-spin story ... On a day when Spurs face face legal action from the Police over alleged use of anti-Semitic language, Nicolas Anelka is to be charged by the FA with making an anti-Semitic gesture in a match against West Ham United.  MEHSTG expects that the Police will soon be following up this matter with charges of their own.

   Louis van Gaal was offered the chance to take over from Andre Villas-Boas as Spurs Head Coach but turned it down, because he is in charge of Holland as far as they go in the World Cup Finals this summer.  However, the Dutchman said he would be interested if offered it again in the summer after the tournament.
   Nabil Bentaleb is at the centre of a three-way international tug-of-war for his services, with England, France and Algeria all ready to offer him a place in their national side according to the Guardian.
   There are many sources claiming Daniel Levy is keen on re-signing Dimitar Berbatov from Fulham for £1.5 million during the transfer window, to add strength to the forward department as Jermain Defoe will be leaving at the end of February.
   Schalke 04 have said they may not be able to take Lewis Holtby back to Germany, as they do not have the finances to complete a transfer.
   Spurs are rumoured to have taken Nigerian international defensive midfielder Gabriel Rueben on trial after the 23 year old left Kilmarnock by mutual consent.
   Tottenham are rumoured to want £10 million from Hull City for midfielder Jake Livermore.
   Sampdoria's 21 year old midfielder Pedro Obiang could be a transfer target for Tottenham according to Italian sources.
   Laste Dombaxe has joined Bolton Wanderers on a work experience loan, which may lead to a full loan in the future.
   Tottenham's Under-21s' game at Bishops Stortford FC against Reading was postponed tonight because of a waterlogged pitch.

   Tottenham beat Swansea City 3-1 at the Liberty Stadium tonight.  Click here for a match report..
   The Sunday Mirror reports that Tim Sherwood may be clearing the decks to make way for .wages to be available to make a £28 million bid for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marco Reus in the summer, with Arsenal and Manchester United both interested in the 24 year old German international too.  The article says that Etienne Capoue may be sold and that Everton are interested in Nacer Chadli, with Lewis Holtby named as another who might move out.
   The Nottingham Forest defender Jamaal Lascelles could be a January transfer target for Spurs, with Arsenal rumoured to have already made a bid for the 20 year old.  If Spurs were to secure his singing, with a £3 million fee being reported, the player would be loaned back to Forest for the remainder of the season.  Newcastle United and Hull City are both also mentioned as having an interest in the player, the Sunday Mirror says.
   Also in the Mirror, a bid for Aston Villa's Belgian striker Christian Benteke might be in the offing, with cash and players making up a £15 million package to tempt his club into selling.  However, the deal might have to wait until the summer according to the tabloid piece.
   In the same paper, there is a snippet saying Tottenham are scouting Steaua Bucharesti midfielder Gabriel Iancu, who is 19 and has a £20 million release clause in his contract, which runs until July 2016, but this may be negotiable.
   Brazilian midfielder Bernard could be a surprise loan target in the January transfer window for Tottenham.  His move to Shakhtar Donetsk has not worked out as he imagined and he is not a regular in the team and with the 21 year old looking to get some playing time under his belt before the World Cup, Spurs may make a move for the player they tried to sign in the summer from Atletico Mineiro, according to the Mirror.
   The Metro claims Spurs are interested in Napoli's Macedonian striker Goran Pandev.  The player had been a Tottenham target when he played for SS Lazio, with the report saying the 30 year old is interested in a deal to come to White Hart Lane.

   TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : -  Kyle Walker is ruled out of Sunday's match, but Gylfi Sigurdsson is fit again and will join the squad in Wales to play against his former club Swansea City.  Jan Vertonghen (ankle), Paulinho (Charlie Adams) and Younes Kaboul (thigh) will be unavailable, but Sandro and Andros Townsend will also join the squad for the game.
   SWANSEA CITY TEAM NEWS : -  Swansea have winger Dwight Tiendalli and midfielder Roland Lamah fit again, but will be missing Jonathan de Guzman (calf), Nathan Dyer (ankle), Pablo Hernandez (hamstring), Michel Vorm (knee), Garry Monk (knee), Michu (ankle) and Jose Canas (ankle).

   The Mirror claims that Daniel Levy is set to block Lewis Holtby's return to Schalke 04 on loan to stymie Arsenal's attempts to buy midfielder Julian Drawler from the Bundesliga club.
   While Nacer Chadli's agent was telling anyone who would listen that his client would have to leave Spurs to get playing time ahead of the World Cup, the Belgian winger was going on-line to deny he was leaving the club and that the stories in the media were all BS.
   There is lots of speculation in various quarters that Spurs will make a £4 million move for Juventus striker Fabio Quagliarella.
   Some sites even suggest a £1.5 million move for former Spurs and now Fulham striker Dimitar Berbatov !!!
   The fine actor and Spurs fan Roger Lloyd-Pack died today.  An all-round good gent will be sadly missed at White Hart Lane and in the world of entertainment.  MEHSTG's thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.

   Tottenham's home match against Cardiff City has been re-arranged to Sunday 2nd March with a 16:30 kick off.
   Belgian winger Nacer Chadli is being linked with a move away from Spurs as he is not getting enough playing time ahead of the World Cup.
   Tottenham are being linked with a move for highly rated Nottingham Forest keeper Karl Darlow, with the goalie being loaned back to the promotion chasing Championship side of the deal goes through, as Spurs look to make provision to have back up for Hugo Lloris when Brad Freidel retires.
   TeamTalk report that FC Porto midfielder Steven Defour wants to leave the club with a return to his homeland with Anderlecht on the cards, but allegedly there is interest from Spurs.
   Scouts from Spurs, Everton, Arsenal and Manchester City were at the Wigan Athletic v MK Dons FA Cup replay last night, but it is not known who they were watching.
   SportsDirect News claims that Spurs are watching 24 year old Swedish international midfielder Albin Ekdal, who plays for Cagliari in Serie A.
   The same site reckons Spurs have been knocked back in an approach for Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder of Galatasary.

   Spurs Under-21s beat Newcastle United U21s 4-1 at Hotspur Way this afternoon.  Spurs goal-scorers were Souleymane Coulibaly, Andros Townsend, Kenneth McEvoy and Harry Kane.
   Lewis Holtby is being linked with a loan move back to Schalke 04, the club he joined Tottenham from.

   Spurs Under-21s' match against Newcastle United U21s at Bishops Stortford FC tonight was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.  It will take place at Noon tomorrow at Hotspur Way.
   Napoli are keen on a €9 million (£7.5 million) move for midfielder Etienne Capoue according to the Express, meaning a loss on the player of £1.5 million.

   The Sun on Sunday carries a story with Tim Sherwood claiming he is unhappy with the unprofessional attitude of some players and that he is looking to sell Etienne Capoue, with Napoli a possible destination for the French midfielder
   The Mirror reports that a number of clubs are looking at taking Lewis Holtby back to Germany, including his former club Schalke 04, Wolfsburg and Hannover.
   Kyle Naughton is being linked to a move to Aston Villa in the same paper.
   The Sun reckons Emmanuel Adebayor might be on the move to Saudi team Al-Ain.
   The Sunday Express claims Spurs will re-ignite their interest in 20 year old winger Alvaro Vadillo of Real Betis.

   A deal for Jermain Defoe to leave Spurs has been agreed with FC Toronto.  The transfer fee will be over £8 million according to Sky Sports News and the contract will run for five years.  Jermain will leave Spurs on 28th February, after returning to the club on loan.  In addition to the transfer, Tottenham now have a four year promotion and merchandising deal with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainments (the company that owns FC Toronto).
   Spurs will also play FC Toronto as part of the deal on July 22nd 2014 as part of the North American pre-season tour.
   TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : -   Spurs welcome back Lewis Holtby, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Andros Townsend to the squad, while Sandro (shin) and Younes Kaboul (thigh) are still not yet match fit, they are in training.  Jan Vertonghen (ankle) and Paulinho (ankle) are both ruled out, while there may be late tests on the fitness of Erik Lamela (hamstring) and Kyle Naughton (ankle and shoulder).
   CRYSTAL PALACE TEAM NEWS : -  Defender Jack Hunt (ankle) and winger Jerome Thomas (calf) are both missing for Saturday's game, while Glenn Murray (knee) and Adlene Guerdioura (ribs) are not quite ready to return to action. 
   Spurs youth team beat the Vietnam Under-19 side 3-2 in the Nutifood Cup tournament today to finish second behind the Japan Under-19 national side.  Spurs scored through Daniel Akindayini, Filip Lesniak (penalty) and an own goal.

   Jermain Defoe's £6 million move to FC Toronto will be sealed on Sunday, with the player being loaned back to an English club until the MLS season starts in March.
   The Daily Mirror claims that Spurs will sell Erik Lamela to Juventus for striker Mirko Vucinic plus cash, as Internazionale have pulled out at Tottenham's valuation for the former AS Roma man.

   Tottenham's reserve striker Jon Obika has joined Brighton & Hove Albion on a three month loan deal.
   The Independent report that Paris St. Germain and Monaco are keen on signing full back Kyle Walker.
   The Spurs Youth Team in Vietnam for the Nutifood Cup lost today 1-2 to AS Roma, with the Spurs goal scored by Filip Lesniak from the penalty spot.

   A strong Spurs XI side beat a young Charlton Athletic team 10-6 in a friendly at Hotspur Way.  Jon Obika hit a double hat-trick, Nacer Chadli scored twice, with the other goals coming from Erik Lamela and Lewis Holtby.
   Reports are conflicting on what Erik Lamela's dad has been saying about either him leaving Spurs to go back to Italy or not going anywhere in this transfer window.

   Tottenham and Liverpool are linked with an interest in former Chelsea striker Salomon Kalou, who is expected to leave Lille this year according to the Daily Mirror.
   The Spurs Youth Team (including some 16 year olds) beat Japan Under-19 side 2-1 in the Nutifood Cup tournament in Vietnam today.  Nathan Oduwa and Daniel Akindayini secured the win for Tottenham after going a goal behind.


   OTHER NEWS ... Arsenal midfielder Theo Walcott received a knee ligament injury which will rule him out for six months in Saturday's FA Cup tie against Tottenham.  All at MEHSTG wish him a full and speedy recovery ... Torquay United announced Chris Hargreaves as their new manager today ... Millwall have appointed Ian Holloway as their new boss ...

   The Sunday People report that Spurs are after two Juventus striker sin the January transfer window.  Mirko Vucinic and Fabio Quagliarella are being targeted with both failing to hold down a regular place in the Serie A team and it is reported that Technical Director Franco Baldini has been to watch them both.
   A striker closer to home is linked in the Mail on Sunday, with Sunderland's Scottish international forward Steven Fletcher looking to move on and Tottenham are said to be one of the favourites to sign him, although his club want £10 million for him.
   in the People again, it is said that Tim Sherwood wants to appoint his own chief scout, despite Franco Baldini being in charge of recruitment.  The article surmises that Baldini may not be at the club much longer than the end of this season, but much depends on what Daniel Levy will be intending for the Head Coach's post I imagine.


   OTHER NEWS ... Portuguese striker of the 1960s Eusebio died aged 71 today.  One of the most feared goal-scorers of his generation, he represented Benfica and Portugal earning the nickname "the Black Pearl".  MEHSTG sends it's condolences to his family and friends ...

   Tottenham lost 0-2 at Arsenal in the FA Cup Third Round this evening.  Click here for a match report.
   Christian Eriksen was tonight announced as the Danish Footballer's Association Player's Player of the Year for 2013.

   TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : -  Spurs will be without Erik Lamela (thigh), Jan Vertonghen (ankle), Paulinho (ankle), Kyle Naughton (ankle and hamstring), Gylfi Sigurdsson (calf), Sandro (calf) and Younes Kaboul (thigh), but Lewis Holtby, Jermain Defoe and Andros Townsend are all back in contention for a starting place.
   ARSENAL TEAM NEWS : -  Mesut Ozil (shoulder) and Olivier Giroud (illness and ankle) will need late fitness tests, but definitely out are Aaron Ramsey (hamstring), Kieran Gibbs (calf), Nicklas Bendtner (ankle), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (knee), Abou Diaby (knee), Yaya Sanogo (back).

   The Daily Mail claims that Emmanuel Adebayor's banishment from the first team under Andre Villas-Boas was due to a row over the Togo international striker's refusal to remove a beanie hat he wore into a team meeting.
   ClubCall claims that Spurs will sell Simon Dawkins to Nottingham Forest for £500,000, after his successful loan spell there !!  What actually happened was he was sold for that amount to Derby County, where he has actually been playing on loan.
   Young striker Shaquile Coulthirst has joined Leyton Orient on loan for two months.
   Goalkeeper Lawrence Vigoroux has had his loan spell at Hyde FC extended by two weeks.

   Manchester City central defender Joleon Lescott fancies a loan move to Spurs in January for the remainder of the season and is willing to take a pay cut to get playing time ahead of the World Cup finals according to the Daily Mirror.
   The Mirror also claims that Steve Bruce wants to make Jake Livermore's loan transfer to Hull City permanent for £3 million.
   The Haringey Independent have been on the sauce over Christmas, as they reveal that Spurs want to bring Fulham striker Dimitar Berbatov back to White Hart Lane for £3 million.  The Sun reckon Arsenal want to sign him for £2 million.
