Spurs are to enter the race for Derby County's talented young
midfielder Giles Barnes, who is interesting Arsenal, Newcastle
United, Everton and Liverpool. A scout was sent to watch the 17
year old in Saturday's game against Ipswich Town. Sven Goran
Eriksson is to visit Tottenham to find out the fitness situation with
Ledley King and Jermaine Jenas. The England boss
reckons Jenas will be OK, but is concerned about the Spurs skipper,
who will not play before the end of the season. Eriksson also
said of Aaron Lennon, a player he has watched a fair bit
lately, that if he does not go to Germany for the World Cup finals, he
thinks he will play for England very soon. Some papers speculate
that he might take Shaun Wright-Phillips' place in the squad as an
understudy to David Beckham.

The Times claims that Mido will not play again this season
because of a knee injury that he has picked up. The Daily Mirror
claims that Spurs are set to back out of a deal for the Egyptian as AS
Roma are now asking £6 million for his permanent transfer, while Spurs
have said to be willing to go up to only £4 million. Mido has
told the Internet that it will not be the end of the world if he does
not join Tottenham, as he will end up at another club. Now
there's the sort of enthusiasm we need from players who want to join
Spurs.
The good news is that Teemu Tainio's toe got the thumbs up

The Blackburn chairman John Williams in response to rumour that Spurs

Bellamy is going nowhere. At Rovers he's not far wrong in his

Arsenal and Liverpool in a £5 million chase for West Bromwich Albion's
central defender Curtis Davies if the Baggies get relegated.
We need a Davies after our previous player bearing that name (Simon

The Daily Telegraph tells us that Spurs will challenge the governing

Jermain Defoe has said he is happy to commit his future to
Tottenham and cannot imagine leaving the club at the moment. The
Spurs striker said that the talk was all positive about Europe and it
would be heartbreaking if the team did not finish in fourth place,
while on his own situation, he said to Sky Sports News that he was
happy at the club although he would like to play more and believes if
he did he would score more goals. Mido has said that he
is nto thinking about other clubs at the moment and is focused on
Spurs, who he would like to come to an agreement with AS Roma to make
his loan a permanent transfer. He said that he knows that after

might have to return to the Italian club, who he regards as a "massive
club".
The Spurs website reveal that
there will be problems with GNER trains on the days of the

Horrible rumours doing the rounds in today's papers are connecting
Spurs with a £3 million summer bid for troubled Birmingham City winger
Jermaine Pennant in the News of the World, while the Sunday
People claims Spurs will make a £6 million double swoop for Chelsea
defenders Glen Johnson and Wayne Bridge. Having
seen Bridge's wild mis-kick in his own area yesterday for Fulham and
knowing Johnson's reported history (breaking wrist punching a wall,
forgetting his passport when going to Barcelona), I would ask if they
are better than we have got already and worth spending £6 million on.
I am not sure what Martin Jol has done to upset Paul
Robinson, but the Spurs keeper thinks he should be the number one
choice to take over from Sven Goran Eriksson when he leaves the
England job after the World Cup this summer, according to the People.
The News of the World also have Spurs down for buying Anderlecht's
Swedish midfielder Christian Wilhelmsson. The 26 year old
reckons Anderlecht blocked Tottenham's move for him in January.
Mido has told Sky Sports that he is happy at White Hart Lane
and Spurs are happy with him, so he hopes on-going talks with AS Roma
about a permanent move will come to fruition.
Martin Jol has told the Spurs website that he hopes Ledley
King will be fit to face Manchester City on Saturday, after it was
decided to rest him yesterday following an ankle problem he picked up
in training.

Former Spurs midfielder Michael Brown got sent off for Fulham
today when he launched a two footed lunge at Portsmouth's former Spurs

feels he shouldn't have left Fulham when he did and came to Spurs.
After the 3-1 win for Pompey, perhaps he will feel differently again
!!
