Spurs are to enter the race for Derby County's talented young midfielder Giles Barnes, who is interesting Arsenal, Newcastle United, Everton and Liverpool.  A scout was sent to watch the 17 year old in Saturday's game against Ipswich Town.  Sven Goran Eriksson is to visit Tottenham to find out the fitness situation with Ledley King and Jermaine Jenas.  The England boss reckons Jenas will be OK, but is concerned about the Spurs skipper, who will not play before the end of the season.  Eriksson also said of Aaron Lennon, a player he has watched a fair bit lately, that if he does not go to Germany for the World Cup finals, he thinks he will play for England very soon.  Some papers speculate that he might take Shaun Wright-Phillips' place in the squad as an understudy to David Beckham.

Horrible rumours doing the rounds in today's papers are connecting Spurs with a £3 million summer bid for troubled Birmingham City winger Jermaine Pennant in the News of the World, while the Sunday People claims Spurs will make a £6 million double swoop for Chelsea defenders Glen Johnson and Wayne Bridge.  Having seen Bridge's wild mis-kick in his own area yesterday for Fulham and knowing Johnson's reported history (breaking wrist punching a wall, forgetting his passport when going to Barcelona), I would ask if they are better than we have got already and worth spending £6 million on.  I am not sure what Martin Jol has done to upset Paul Robinson, but the Spurs keeper thinks he should be the number one choice to take over from Sven Goran Eriksson when he leaves the England job after the World Cup this summer, according to the People.  The News of the World also have Spurs down for buying Anderlecht's Swedish midfielder Christian Wilhelmsson.  The 26 year old reckons Anderlecht blocked Tottenham's move for him in January.  Mido has told Sky Sports that he is happy at White Hart Lane and Spurs are happy with him, so he hopes on-going talks with AS Roma about a permanent move will come to fruition.
Martin Jol has told the Spurs website that he hopes Ledley King will be fit to face Manchester City on Saturday, after it was decided to rest him yesterday following an ankle problem he picked up in training.
