Frederic Kanoute's agent said that the player regarded a move to Spurs as a great one.  A price of around £4 million was quoted, while the player has been to America to get his injury problems sorted out.  Other clubs are interested, but Kanoute's choice would be Spurs and he believes he can get a good understanding going with Robbie Keane.  The agent said Hoddle had told Daniel Levy that this was his top target and the deal should be concluded in the next two weeks.

Planet Football claims that Spurs are to show interest in Arsenal back-up keeper Guillame Warmuz.  The 33 year old former Lens goalie is not likely to be kept on next season and has started looking around for a new club, so with Spurs likely to move on Neil Sullivan, who does not figure in Hoddle's plans, a free transfer to White Hart lane might suit both parties.
Tottenham have said that they will be reviewing their Cup voucher scheme for season ticket holders in light of pressure via the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust and fan action, including an approach to the local Council's Trading Standards department.  While nothing can be changed for the coming season, the club are aware at the strength of feeling and will look at something for the 2004-05 season.  The item on the official website also included a mention of review for the 10% discount in Spurs stores season ticket holders had withdrawn.

Further rumours are claiming that Teddy Sheringham has struck a deal with Daniel Levy not to criticise the club in return for a chance to come back one day to manage Spurs.  t is believed that Hoddle felt that Sheringham was having too much undue influence on the side and the player is believed to have turned down a substantial sum for spilling the beans on what has gone on at the club.  He is reported to have left "on good terms", so that a return would be easier for him and the club to facilitate.  He has been talking with Millwall about a move to the First Division club.

Friday  9.5.2003   (For other Spurs history on this day click here)

The genius that is Tim Sherwood has told the Sun newspaper that Glenn Hoddle is ruining Tottenham Hotspur.  He said that it didn't take a rocket scientist to see that there were problems at Spurs and that Hoddle was behind them, as the team do not respect him and look up to the experienced players more than the manager.  The Portsmouth midfielder went on to add that the way the Tottenham boss has treated Steffen Freund and Teddy Sheringham is disgraceful and that the club will not get success until Hoddle is kicked out.  He said nobody would shed a tear of Glenn was sacked tomorrow.  Conversely, he changed his tack on the lack of ambition of the board (see his comments prior to the current season) by saying that they saw the recession in football's finances coming before him and many others and praised them for doing the right thing by the club.
Hoddle himself has said that Sherwood was keen to stay nine months ago, so why is he stating that things were so bad.  The manager said it was only when Sherwood was told that he would not be getting a new contract that his attitude changed and that he would not lower himself to the level of the midfielder by getting involved in a slanging match.
Spurs have issued a denial that an approach has been made for Klaus Toppmoller, the Bayer Leverkusen manager, as speculation surrounds Hoddle's continuation in the post.
TOTTENHAM TEAM NEWS : - Dean Richards is likely to miss the game with a back injury that has ruled him out of the last few matches.  Darren Anderton's knee injury may allow Jamie Redknapp to continue in midfield.  Steffen Iversen is struggling to be fit after resuming training this week with a rib injury, while Christian Ziege has a very slim chance of appearing in the side after his thigh and calf injuries sustained since Christmas.
Spurs squad : - Keller, Carr, Perry, Gardner, King, Bunjevcevic, Taricco, Ziege, Acimovic, Redknapp, Davies, Etherington, Poyet, Toda, Ricketts, Sheringham, Keane, Blondel, Yeates, Sullivan, Burch

Blackburn squad : - Friedel, Kelly, Neill, Todd, Berg, Johansson, Taylor, McEveley, Flitcroft, Dunn, Tugay, Hignett, Jansen, Yorke, Ostenstad, Duff, Cole, Sukur.
Spurs might be one of five Premiership clubs who wants to talk to Brazilian midfielder Kleberson, when he flies in to England.
Millwall have said that it is not out of the question that they might sign Teddy Sheringham, but it would require the former Lions forward to take a pay cut.
Meanwhile, Sheringham is having talks with the FA about fast-tracking his coaching career to get the necessary certificates to become a manager in double-quick time.
Spurs will unveil their new away kit in the last match of the season at home to Blackburn Rovers.  The kit is believed to be light blue and white in colour.

The Sun claims that Tottenham are in the hunt for Lee Bowyer should West Ham United be relegated.  The midfielder can leave for £500,000 and might go even if they stay up, because of the drain on resources his wages make.  Having shown sensitivity in not playing against Wimbledon, the Spurs board might think again about this proposed signing.  Birmingham City are also interested.
The Sun also link Hoddle with an interest in 24 year old Yildmaz Basturk, the Turkish midfielder playing for Bayer Leverkusen.
Having announced that Spurs will let Teddy Sheringham leave at the end of this season, he has been linked with FC Porto and Sporting Lisbon, if he doesn't make a move to a Premiership team, such as newly promoted Portsmouth, which has been hinted at.  The London Evening Standard reckon that the Spurs captain has told associates that he is well off out of the club !!

Meanwhile, the Bobby Zamora to Spurs rumour is gathering pace, with a price of £1.5 million quoted for the 22 year old Brighton and Hove Albion forward.

The London Evening Standard proposes the theory that Gus Poyet will follow Sheringham out of White Hart lane with Tottenham buying out his contract.  However, the Uruguayan midfielder said he wanted to see out the last year of his contract and then retire at the end of the 2003-04 season.

The big news is that Spurs might have to pay out £900,000 in compensation to fans for the unused Cup voucher in their season ticket books.  Having only had one home cup tie, THFC may be taken to task by Haringey Trading Standards for not refunding the money paid for the extra "unplayed" match if some disgruntled fans have their way.  Details that no refund would be given were featured in the literature sent out with the renewal forms and therefore, I do not think many Spurs fans expect to get some money back from the club.
Quinton Fortune is a target for Spurs, who have approached Manchester United for his services.
TOTTENHAM TEAM NEWS : -  Dean Richards is out with an ankle injury picked up against Manchester United, to be replaced by Anthony Gardner and Jamie Redknapp is in the squad after missing four months with a broken toe.  Darren Anderton (knee), Steffen Freund (groin), Steffen Iversen (cracked rib) and Gary Doherty (knee) are all out for the trip to Teeside.  Some youngsters have been added to the squad to travel North and Mark Yeates, Rob Burch, Dean Marney and Rohan Ricketts will all join up with the more experienced players.
MIDDLESBROUGH TEAM NEWS : - Juninho has recovered from a hamstring injury and will be fit to play, although midfield colleague Geremi might miss out with an ankle problem.
TeamTalk claim that Real Madrid star striker Savio is interested in a move to London and this has alerted Tottenham to his availability.  The 29 year old Brazilian would like to stay at Bordeaux, but they might not be able to afford him.
Rumour also links Spurs with Leon McKenzie of Peterborough United, who has refused to sign a new contract as he wants to play for a bigger club, but manager Barry Fry said that a fee for the 24 year old former Crystal Palace striker would have to meet the valuation of himself and the chairman.

Apparently Arsenal have dropped their proposed bid of £5 million for Stephen Carr because of the over-inflated opinion of themselves ... no sorry, that should have read, the over-inflated cost of their new ground, which has plunged them £42.7 million into debt.
The Daily Mail reports that Steffen Iversen is now fighting fit because he has cut out getting injured.  Or was it eating Pizza ... oh, yeah, that was it !!  He has lost 5kg from cutting out the takeaway food and concentrating on making the best use of his skills for Norway, as the national coach's target man.
Tottenham have signed Scott Thyer, the Welsh Under-16 striker, on a free transfer for a two year deal.
