  A Spurs XI including Fredi Kanoute, Robbie Keane and Michael Carrick beat Aldershot Town at the Recreation Ground this afternoon 4-0.  The goals came from Mounir El Hamdaoui, Robbie Keane, Calum Davenport and Michael Carrick.
  Among all the tabloid stories about how much of a head-case Edgar Davids is, the Sunday Mirror claims that Spurs have put a "good behaviour" clause in the contract of the determined Dutch midfielder.  This means that if he blows up as he has done in the past at other clubs, they are able to terminate his contract at any given moment
  A couple of Sunday papers claim that Manchester City want their former midfield player Michael Brown back and will make a move for him soon.
  Spurs Under-18s beat Bayer Levekusen 3-2 in a friendly with Simon Dawkins scoring twice and the other goal came from Radwan Hamed.
  Tomorrow (Monday) sees the issue of the Guardian Guide to the 2005-06 season in that newspaper.  Andy Greeves has contributed the Spurs section and we hope he will shortly be featuring in MEHSTG.

  Spurs beat Reading 2-0 in a pre-season friendly at the Madjeski Stadium this afternoon.  A match report can be viewed by clicking here.
  Edgar Davids appeared in the Directors Box at the ground during the match and took the applause from the Spurs contingent at the game.  The Daily Mirror claims that Davids will be made club captain, while Ledley King will remain as team captain.  Some sources have said that the weekly Davids salary will be closer to £47,000 than the £60,000 originally speculated.
  Spurs target Sevilla striker Julio Baptista has agreed to join Real Madrid for £9 million, saying he wanted to receive Spanish nationality by staying in the country for another two years at least.

  Martin Jol has said that he is 99% sure Edgar Davids will sign for Spurs and will complete his medical tomorrow after having undergone the first part yesterday.  He hopes the Dutch midfielder will agree terms shortly too.
  Martin went on to add that he had not had talks with Andy van der Meyde of Internazionale or Dirk Kuyt of Feyenoord, although he told reporters that the club were always on the look-out to sign players who would add quality to the team.
  Guti has said that he intends to stay at Real Madrid, thus disappointing Everton and Spurs who had shown interest in him if he left the Spanish club.
  The Daily Express claims that Spurs will make a move for Chelsea left-back Wayne Bridge after the signing of Edgar Davids, to give competition to Erik Edman for his position.
  Fredi Kanoute has been the subject of an approach by West Ham United the Guardian tells us and Tottenham have told the East London side to increase their offer if they are serious about re-signing their former striker.
  Spurs have missed out on two young starlets.  Forward Salvatore Foti has been snapped up by Sampdoria from Venezia and Liverpool jumped ahead of Spurs and Arsenal to sign up 16 year-old Jack Hobbs from Lincoln City.
  Phil Ifil was stuck on the bench as England's Under-19 team that lost 1-3 to France in the final of the European Championships in Belfast tonight.
  Former Spurs defender Ian Hillier has been turned down by Grimsby Town, who had the Welshman on trial.
  Former Spurs midfielder Tim Sherwood has retired from the game after a persistent knee injury.

  Martin Jol has expressed his glee at attracting Edgar Davids to the club and said that he wanted to come to White Hart Lane three years ago, but the transfer could not be agreed.  The Spurs Head Coach said that Davids instigated the move to Spurs, as he was an avid Tottenham fan just like himself.
  Internazionale's owner Massimo Moratti has said that the club were dealing with Spurs and Everton on the futures of midfielder Edgar Davids and winger Andy van der Meyde.  He did not specify of Spurs were being linked with both players of just Davids.

  Spurs are believed to have approached Dutch midfielder Edgar Davids of Internazionale to join on a free transfer.  The former Ajax, AC Milan and Barcelona star is expected to come to London for a medical and to agree terms before signing.  It is said in the newspapers that he will receive a £1.5 million signing on fee with a salary of £60,000 a week, making him the highest paid player at the club.  His signing is seen as a bid to instill a winning mentality into the young Spurs players and to add experience to the side.
  Should Tottenham complete this deal, it will indicate that top stars can be brought to White Hart Lane and that the spending of the club's money is in safe hands after yesterday's rumour about Boa Morte.

  The Daily Mirror have Spurs down as having made a £4m bid for Fulham striker Luis Boa Morte.  It is felt that they want more competition for Andy Reid on the left side of the pitch.  Please let us spend that much on someone who will add something more than diving and spitting to the team. 
  Spurs defender Phil Ifil was in the England Under-19 team that reached the final of the European Championships in Northern Ireland with a 3-1 win over Serbia and Montenegro in the semi.
  The Daily Star reckon Spurs will make a £9 million bid for Crystal Palace striker Andy Johnson in a last attempt to prise him away from the relegated South London club.
  Youth team defender Mark Wright is currently on trial at Southend United.

  Tottenham and Everton are targeting Auxerre striker Benjamin Mwaruwari according to the Daily Mirror.
  Former Spurs midfielder Kazuyuki Toda was accused of spitting at David Beckham when Real Madrid played Tokyo Verdy in a friendly today.  The England captain pursued the Japanese player into the tunnel and tried to get into the home side's dressing room to confront him.

  Former Newcastle United and SCBC full back Olivier Bernard is being linked with a move to Spurs on a free transfer according to the Sunday People.
  Portsmouth winger Lomana Lualua has said that he is happy at Fratton Park and has no intention of leaving despite Tottenham's alleged interest in him.

  Marton Fulop is seeking a loan spell at another club to get first team experience.  After enjoying his game against Real Sociedad, the Hungarian keeper said that he will only learn by playing although he is "soothed" by the trust that Spurs have in him.
  The young Spurs side has a great future according to Noureddine Naybet.  On the official clubs site, the Moroccan international extols the virtues of the side and the work that Martin Jol has done with the many new players since he arrived and took over as Head Coach.  Naybet likes the way Jol mixes modern techniques with the traditional Tottenham style and believes this blend will serve the team well in years to come.

  Spurs reached the final of the Peace Cup today with a 1-1 draw against ten man Real Sociedad.  Match report to follow.

Tottenham Hotspur will face French league champions Olympique Lyonnais in the Peace Cup Final on Sunday 24th July.  British Eurosport will be broadcasting the match LIVE from the Seoul World Cup Stadium in Korea with an extended evening highlights programme. 
Martin Jol's North London team and former Liverpool manager, Gerard Houllier's Lyon both booked their passage into the final with 1-1 draws against Real Sociedad and PSV Eindhoven respectively.  Spurs topped Group B on goal difference, ahead of Argentina's Boca Juniors and South African side Sundowns, while Lyon's point against title holders PSV took them to the top of Group A, which included Columbian champions Once Caldas and South Korean champions Seongnam Ilhwa. 
Both sides will be keen to enter in to the 2005/2006 season with a confidence-boosting victory in Korea, and with a prize of $2,000,000 adding an extra incentive, there is sure to be a competitive edge to proceedings.

  Norwich City are interested in taking Dean Marney on loan for the season.
  Spurs have been accused of pandering to the "Moonies", as religious leader Sun Myung Moon is behind the Peace Cup, the tournament Tottenham are currently taking part in.  However, a club spokesperson said that the competition is backed by FIFA and the Korean FA and they are happy it is run properly.  The "Moonies" were found to be responsible for brain-washing people once taken in by the cult religion.
  Juventus midfielder Stephen Appiah has joined Fenerbahce just a few days after saying he would like to play in the Premiership and being linked with Tottenham.
  Middlesbrough are looking at Sean Davis after failing to sign Stephen Appiah.
  Team Talk claim that Spurs are chasing Hossein Kaabi.  Portsmouth, Aston Villa and Bolton are also keen on the £1m-rated Iranian full-back.
  Kieran McKenna captained Northern Ireland under-19s to a 0-1 defeat to Serbia and Montenegro in the European championships in Newry today.
  England's Under-19s drew 1-1 with Armenia in the European championships in Ballymena today, with Phil Ifil playing the whole game.

  Sevilla striker Julio Baptista has said he wants to stay in Spain for one more year to gain his EU citizenship.  The player said he has adapted to La Liga and would find it difficult to adapt to a new league at this time, so his proposed move to London with Arsenal or Spurs will be on hold until he leaves on a free transfer next summer.
  Robbie Keane has told Sky Sports that he is keen to stay and fight for his place at the club, saying that all the forwards can do is to impress in pre-season training and matches to give Martin Jol a selection headache.
  Former Spurs midfielder and manager Ossie Ardiles was sacked today by his J-League club Tokyo Verdy.

  Spurs beat Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 in the Peace Cup in Suwon this morning.  For a match report, click here.
  Brazilian striker Baptista is the subject of a bid of over £13.7 million from Tottenham the Sevilla club website said today.  Arsenal had been the previous highest bidders, but the Spanish club have now announced that the most important offer has come from Spurs.
  Not content with that Spurs are being linked to Hertha Berlin striker Solomon Okoronokwo.  The 17 year old Nigerian Under-20 forward appears to be keen to stay in Germany with the club that made his name, which will disappoint Monaco and AC Milan too.
  The Sun still runs with the Keane/Kanoute double bid from Manchester City now that they have some cash to spend from the sale of Wright-Phillips.
  Biggest laugh of the day goes to Sky Sports website who claim Spurs are keen on Fenerbahce striker Nicholas Anelka !!  Luckily, he appears to be in talks with Newcastle United, although the Turkish side are not keen to let him go.

  The News of the World claims that Middlesbrough are favourites to sign Robbie Keane from Tottenham.  However, this might change in light of the Manchester City's agreement on a fee for Shaun Wright-Phillips to join Chelsea and the club are going to have a good sum of money to spend on replacements, with Keane one of the players they are keen on.
  A couple of papers today claim that Fulham are interested in taking midfielder Sean Davis back to Craven Cottage, after he only made 16 appearances for Tottenham last season.
  The People reckon that Wigan Athletic will make a move for Michael Brown if Spurs sign Guti from Real Madrid.
  Spurs transfer target Owen Hargreaves has turned down a move to Middlesbrough where he was guaranteed a first team place and a salary to match that at Bayern Munich.  his agent said his international prospects were better served by staying with Bayern and playing in the Champions League rather than the Premiership.
  Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has said that he is keen to leave Juventus and join a Premiership club.  Among those clubs interested are Everton, Birmingham City and Middlesbrough, with Spurs the latest team to show their hand.  The 24 year old midfielder said on the BBC website that a move top London interests him, but he is said to want to be playing European football next season.

  Spurs drew 2-2 with Boca Juniors in their opening Peace Cup match in Suwon, Korea.  For a match report and reaction, click here.
  A number of sources have taken Paul Robinson's words from the official website and relayed them as he will miss the first game of the Premier League.  Robinson is coming back from a knee ligament injury and will continue his rehabilitation while out in Korea with the rest of the first team squad.
  Former Spurs winger Matthew Etherington has signed a new four year deal with The Irons and has said "Now I am ten times the player I was when I was at Tottenham, I want to show everyone I can play at this level."

  The Sun are claiming that Spurs have put a £6 million tag on Fredi Kanoute, but the Mali striker still says he wants to stay at the club.
  Spurs are believed to be in contention with Monaco for the 28 year-old PSV Eindhoven defender Lee Young-pyo. 
  A young goalkeeper Spurs had been linked with in the past has signed for Manchester United.  Ben Foster of Stoke City will join the Red Devils in the next couple of days.
  A Spurs XI won 1-0 at Cheshunt tonight thanks to a Jamie O'Hara goal.

  Spurs might sign Jonathan De Guzman, a Deportivo La Coruna midfielder on loan for the season.
  Manchester City are poised to make a £4 million move for Fredi Kanoute when they get the money for Shaun Wright-Phillips from Chelsea according to the Sun.  West Ham United are also interested in taking back their former forward for the same sum.  Spurs are expected to reject ant offers in that region.  
  Meanwhile, West Ham United have agreed a £2.4 million transfer for former Spurs transfer target Racing Santander midfielder Yossi Benayoun.
  Michael Brown hopes to be fit for the new season after having operations on foot and stomach injuries.
  Former Spurs reserve midfielder Ciaran Toner has joined Grimsby Town on a one year deal.
  Former Spurs goalkeeper Ian Walker has signed for Bolton Wanderers after being released by Leicester City.

  OTHER NEWS ... Both Chelsea and Barcelona have been fined for in their Champions league match at Stamford Bridge in March.  A Chelsea official blew a kiss to Frank RIjkaard costing the West London club €13,000 and Barcelona fans earned their club a €3,206 fine for throwing plastic bottles onto the pitch after being pelted by Chelsea fans (according to Sky Sports website) ...

  Thimothee Atouba has completed his transfer to SV Hamburg.  The fee was believed to be around £1.5 million.
  Rearranged kick off times for three of our home games have been announced.  The game against Arsenal on Saturday October 29th will now kick off at 13.00, while the match at White Hart Lane against West Ham United will move to Sunday 20th November and commence at 13.00.  The final change comes in the home game when Birmingham City come to visit and the Boxing Day match will start at 13.00.
  Everton have joined Spurs in the quest to sign Real Madrid midfielder Guti.

  MEHSTG's spin story ... Liverpool's big summer signing saved them against tiny Welsh side TNS at Anfield in the European Champions League tonight.  Steven Gerrard struck three goals to give the holders a slight advantage for the second leg away from home.

  Real Madrid midfielder Guti is now the top target for Spurs according to the Daily Mirror.  The 28 year old has been dropping out of favour at the Spanish club and Daniel Levy has supposedly flown to America to broker the £5 million deal.  According to radio stations he might be jumping the gun as Real are still in Spain.
  The Mirror claims that Tottenham have turned to Guti after being told by Newcastle United chairman Freddie Shepherd that it would take a £12 million bid to prise Jermaine Jenas away from St. James' Park.
  While they were on the subject, the same paper state that Spurs fancy taking Louis Saha on loan from Manchester United for a season, even though Alex Ferguson has confirmed that the French striker is still in his long-term plans.
  The Sun claim that if Manchester City sell Shaun Wright-Phillips, Stuart Pearce will go for Spurs striker Fredi Kanoute.

  MEHSTG's spin story ... Jose Mourinho has suggested that Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein should no longer be a member of the FA board and should resign.  He also added that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson should take a back seat this season letting their number twos have a go and that Tony Blair should stand down as Prime Minister ... a job that he could do better himself.

  Spurs have agreed a fee with Hamburg SV for the transfer of Thimothee Atouba.  The player has yet to pass a medical and agree personal terms, but appears to be ready to leave Tottenham and was travelling to Germany this evening to meet with Hamburg officials.  The fee is thought to be in the region of £2 million.
  Brazilian striker Julio Baptista has decided that he will turn down a possible move to London with Spurs or Arsenal, preferring to stay in Spain with his current club Sevilla or Real Madrid or Barcelona.
  Spurs might return to Crystal Palace for Andy Johnson, who has made it clear that he wishes to leave Selhurst Park.  Everton and Newcastle United are also monitoring the situation.
  The Daily Mirror claims that Fulham and Spurs are vying for the services of Sporting Lisbon striker Rodolpho Douala.
  The Sky Sports website claims that Tottenham will take two Iranian players on trial in August to assess their abilities.  24 year old Javad Nekounam and 19 year old Hossein Kaebi have impressed in their homeland and they are of the right age to develop into the first team should Spurs take them on permanently.
  Nathan Ellington's refusal to sign a new contract at Wigan Athletic has raised speculation that Tottenham might make a bid for the striker, who would be a ready made replacement for Jermain Defoe.  The Lactics would have to sell him now or risk losing him for nothing next summer and this might spark a great deal of interest in the 23 year old forward.

  The Sunday Mirror claims that Spurs are set to sell Fredi Kanoute back to West Ham United for £5 million this week.
  Charlton Athletic are supposedly looking at Spurs midfielder Sean Davis, who the News of the World reckons the club are willing to let go after just a year.
  Derby County manager Phil Brown said to be interested in taking midfielder Johnnie Jackson to Pride Park.
  Scaremongering is not an attractive feature and the Star claim that Jermain Defoe looks set to move to Liverpool or Manchester United because (in footballing rumour vernacular) he is "buying a house in Cheshire".
  An article attributing comments to Frank Arnesen in the News of the World claims that he wanted to go to Chelsea as he was unused to not being first in line for the top players and with Arsenal and Chelsea taking them before Spurs, he had to leave.  He is also said to have commented that he played for Anderlecht against Spurs in the 1984 UEFA Cup which Spurs won on penalties, but he said that it was about the last thing the club did win.  He has subsequently said that he did not make these comments to the newspaper.
  A Spurs XI drew 1-1 at Fleet Town this afternoon with Lee Barnard scoring the Tottenham goal.

  Spurs beat Stevenage Borough 3-0 at Broadhall Way in their first pre-season friendly this afternoon.  For a match report, click here.
  The Sun are claiming this morning that Spurs have put in a £12.5 million bid to Sevilla for their 23 year old striker Julio Baptista.
  In the same paper, it is claimed that defender Anthony Gardner's move to Charlton Athletic is in doubt because he has failed a medical.
  Spurs, Manchester City, Glasgow Rangers and Celtic are considering moves for Greek and Roma central defender Traianos Dellas, who is looking for a move to Britain.
  It appears that Spurs transfer target Stewart Downing will sign a new five year deal with Middlesbrough after a £6 million offer for him was rejected.

  Spurs and Glasgow Rangers are being linked with a move for Manchester United's England midfielder Kieran Richardson, who might yet return to West Bromwich Albion on loan, so says the Independent.
  Tottenham announced late last night that the arrangements for the departure of Frank Arnesen to Chelsea have now been agreed. 
The terms will remain confidential and Arnesen will stay as an employee of Tottenham Hotspur until 31 August 2005 and has been working with the Club while he has been suspended.  The suspension is now over and the Dane will continue to work in his post in what the club describe as "a thoroughly professional manner" until he goes to Stamford Bridge on 1st September.
  Simon Davies has said that he felt that he had stayed in one place for too long before leaving Spurs for Everton.  Having missed out on a move to Goodison in the January transfer window, Daniel Levy said that if the Welsh midfielder still wanted to leave in the summer he would not stand in his way and Davies said that he was true to his word allowing him to join the Merseyside club.

  Goalkeeper Paul Robinson today signed a seven year contract with Tottenham, saying that there was no doubt this is where he wanted to be.
  Barcelona striker Javier Saviola is being allowed to leave Barcelona and Newcastle United and Spurs are said to be interested in signing the 25 year old Argentinian on a free transfer as he has been offered to both clubs.
  It is reported that Thimothee Atouba is keen to join Hamburg as he feels that he needs regular first team football to maintain the progress of his career, but the German club's offer is nowhere near the £2 million estimation that Spurs have of the Cameroon international.

  Having failed in bids for Manchester United's Alan Smith and Christian Vieri of Internazionale will now turn his attention in trying to take Robbie Keane to Newcastle United.
  The Guardian claim that Spurs are ready to offer Christian Vieri a two year deal according to the Guardian.  Bolton Wanderers, CSKA Moscow, Sevilla, Olympiakos, Fiorentina, AC Milan, Chelsea, Juventus and Atletico Madrid are also watching his situation, but it is believed that he has made an agreement, as part of his departure, not to join any other Serie A club.

  Spurs have had a £6 million offer for Middlesbrough's England winger Stuart Downing rejected and they have been told that he is not for sale.  however, the player's agent has said that the contract talks he is having with his club have hit an "impasse" with Downing unhappy about the terms being offered by Boro.
  Charlton Athletic are keen to sign Spurs central defender Anthony Gardner for £1.6 million, according to the Sun.
  The internet is buzzing today with news that Christian Vieri has had his contract with Internazionale of Milan terminated a year early and that he is interesting Newcastle United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs.  The player will not command a fee, but, no doubt, his wages will be huge.
  Fredi Kanoute has said that he wants to stay at Spurs, despite rumours that the club are ready to sell him for missing the end of season tour to Mauritius.  The Mali striker said he intended talks with head coach Martin Jol on his return to pre-season training tomorrow and that he did not intend to upset anyone at the club by missing the trip, but was willing to remain with Tottenham, as he was not interested in the move to West Bromwich Albion and going back to France was not an option.
  The Mirror run a story claiming that Spurs were supposedly battling Chelsea for the services of Anderlecht's central defender Vincent Kompany, but the player has extended his contract at the Belgian club.
