With Spurs still concerned that Jan Vertonghen may be pursued by Barcelona, they are considering a move for Villarreal's 23 year old Argentine central defender Mateo Musacchio.
Other reports claim Mauricio Pochettino might return to Southampton to sign 30 year old central defender Jose Fonte.  Please don't let this be true.

Tottenham are awaiting to see the outcome of the fall-out at Southampton, where rumours of Morgan Schneiderlin handing in a transfer request have not been confirmed, nor have rumours of a bust-up in training involving three senior figures at the South Coast club.  Jay Rodriguez also remains a target despite the Saints Chief Exec saying neither playing is going anywhere.
Spurs are allegedly in discussions to bring Eric Dier, the England Under-21 and Sporting Lisbon defender - back to England.  The player has lived in Portugal since he was very young, but may be keen on a move to his homeland to gain more first team experience, although any deal may include a loan back to Sporting for the coming season.  The fee for the 20 year old is said to be £4 million and some reports leave out the loan aspect of the deal, although Sporting are keen on a sell-on condition.  Dier is the grandson of former FA chief Ted Croker.
Derby County are being linked with a loan move for Tom Carroll.
Most of the World Cup players were back in training at Hotspur Way today.  The only absentee was Paulinho.
Yago Falque is said to be set to move to Serie A side Genoa with only a medical to be completed for the winger to leave White Hart Lane.

MEHSTG's no-spin story ... West Ham United co-owner David Gold claimed that it was jet lag that made him give unknowing support to a fan's desire for manager Sam Allardyce to be sacked.  Maybe it was all that time up in the air that made him empathise with a football in Allardyce's tactical approach to the game.

Southampton seemed to have slammed the door on the moves out of St. Mary's by Jay Rodriguez and Morgan Schneiderlin, after the Chief Executive of the club said they would be part of the core squad for the opening match in the Premier League in three weeks time and that they would not be sold this summer.
On-line rumours claim Spurs have offered a two year deal to Romanian 15 year old Rares Lazar, who had been on trial with the club for a week after a similar try-out for QPR.  The midfielder from FC Vaslui will go into the Academy side.

There are strong rumour sin the papers and online that Tottenham are very close to completing the double signing of Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin and striker Jay Rodriguez for a sum believed to be in the region of £50 million.  There is some doubt about the terms of any transfer for Rodriguez who is currently recovering from a knee ligament injury.
Spurs are also supposedly close to bringing Portuguese international defender Miguel Lopez to White Hart Lane, initially on loan with a view to a permanent move.  The 27 year old Sporting Lisbon full back can cover both sides of the back four, but it is believed that Spurs want him to cover for Kyle Walker.
This would appear to be necessary should Swansea City's interest in Kyle Naughton be allowed to come to fruition.  The Welsh club are set to make a formal approach for the right back and whispers reckon Tottenham will be willing to let him move to get more first team action
Stories coming out of Italy claim that Napoli will make a move for Christian Eriksen, but it is unlikely that Spurs will allow the Danish midfielder to leave after a very good debut season.
Conversely, Spurs are linked with a move for Napoli midfielder Valon Behrami, after he stormed out of training at Napoli following a row with manager Rafa Benitez.
Spurs and Liverpool have been warned off Swansea City's Ivory Coast striker Wilfried Bony, by being told that only an "astronomical" fee would make the Swans sell their star striker.

Spurs appear to be doing things in two this summer, with stories of Franco Baldini being in Rome to discuss a double move for forward Mattia Destro and Moroccan defender Medhi Benatia, although later reports had the AS Roma chairman saying Benatia would still be at the club when the season gets underway.
Two other players form the same club that Mauricio Pochettino knows well are midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin and striker Jay Rodriguez.  Schneiderlin has said he would prefer to link up with his old boss rather than join Arsenal, while Rodriguez is refusing to talk about a new contract at St. Marys, while he is still recovering from an injury that ruled him out of the World Cup
Spurs are said to be interested in Shakthar Donetsk's Brazilian striker Douglas Costa, along with Arsenal.  The player is concerned about the worsening political situation in Ukraine and wants to leave.
Tottenham are reported to have be willing to go to £20 million in a bid for Real Sociedad attacking midfielder Antoine Griezmann and may be game for paying the release clause for the player, which is £25 million.
Another player linked to Spurs is Argentine attacking midfielder Manuel Lanzini, with the 21 year old River Plate man able to operate on both flanks.  Besiktas, Villarreal and SS Lazio are also watching the player who is a regular in the Argentine Under-20 side.
