A
busy transfer deadline day saw Tottenham Hotspur a hive of activity.
Tottenham
signed England international Jermaine Jenas from Newcastle United for
around £7 million-£8 million. The midfielder has passed his medical
yesterday and the five year deal was completed by 10.30 a.m. this morning.
Spurs
have also agreed to buy Lee Young-Pyo from PSV Eindhoven. The
Korean full-back will join on a four year contract subject to receiving a work permit.
French
club Rennes claim to have signed Spurs defender Erik Edman on a
three-year contract for about £2 million.
Everton
are supposedly seeking to sign Spurs striker Robbie Keane and are
reported as being in talks with him.
Reto
Ziegler has joined SV Hamburg on a season long loan.
Spurs
raised their offer for Livorno striker Cristiano Lucarelli to £3.4
million, but were still unable to tempt the Serie A side to sell him.
The player is a little annoyed that this fee is five times that paid
to Torino to take him to Livorno and he may want to ask the chairman
why he was not allowed to move on.
Reserve
goalkeeper Rob Burch has gone to Bristol City on a month's loan.
Mido's
appeal against his red card handed out in last Saturday's match has
been rejected and he has been charged with improper conduct for not
leaving the field quickly enough after being sent off. He has
until 18.00 p.m. to ask for a hearing to explain his conduct against
Chelsea.
Former
Spurs youngster John Sutton has left Millwall to join St. Mirren.
Former
Spurs defender Stuart Nethercott has gone on loan to Woking from
Wycombe Wanderers.

to Tottenham, which may cost the club £3 million, as PSV are saying
that his valuation has gone up since he first joined them and the
clause was put in his contract.
Mido
is to appeal against his red card handed out on Saturday to try and
get it rescinded.
The
Daily Mail and the Daily Express claim Mido could face an additional
one match ban for failing to leave the field in Saturday's match
against Chelsea when he was sent off.

persuade Chelsea to release their forward Carlton Cole for £2

Dirk

However, the News of the World say that Newcastle are holding out for
£1 million more. The People claim that Tottenham have
"pulled the plug" on their interest in the player.

same newspaper claims that the £2 million transfer for PSV

And

Kanoute completed his move to La Liga club Sevilla this morning after
passing a medical. The Mali international has signed a four year deal.
Kanoute told his website that he was sad to be leaving Spurs and the
friends he has at the club, but when he knew the club were willing to
sell him, it was best that he went. Fredi added that the squad
can do well this season, but the biggest problem might be keeping the
big squad content.
A
number of newspapers report that Spurs will move for Dirk Kuyt of
Feyenoord to replace Kanoute. A £8.15 million bid has
supposedly been turned down and the Dutch club are holding out for
£12 million that Chelsea paid for Arjen Robben.

The
News of the World thinks that Spurs will use Fredi Kanoute to secure
the singing of Jermaine Jenas should Newcastle United fail to get
Michael Owen. The paper claims that Spurs are willing to make a
bid of £8 million plus Fredi if the England and Real Madrid striker
Owen does not join the Magpies. Kanoute seems resigned to leave
Spurs, as he has heard all the rumours and feels that if the right
price is bid, he will be on his way, although he still wants a say in
where he goes.
The
same paper has issued an apology to Frank Arnesen about the story they
ran a few weeks back detailing his derogatory remarks about Tottenham
Hotspur.

Atouba says he misses his friends at Tottenham and the Premiership,

Jol has revealed that he is happy to have Fredi Kanoute at Spurs and
although a club did make an enquiry about his availability last week,
the Head Coach had not had Kanoute visit him to talk to him, which he
normally did if he had a problem. Jol said that he was pleased
with the striker's contribution last season as he was the big man up
front that he used the most.
Noureddine
Naybet has retired from international football after earning over 100
caps for Morocco and captaining the country for 10 years.
Tottenham Hotspur defender Nourredine Naybet has retired from
international football. The defender said, "I believe it is
the right time to do so. I am not happy with what is happening
with the national team anymore. I respect my coach and I know my
limits, but he said I was injured, which was not true. The
current situation inside the squad does not encourage me to play on,
especially when personal conflicts get mixed up with professional
relations - now I have to concentrate on my career with the
Spurs," he went on. The row seems to have blown up after he
was omitted from the Morocco side to face Kenya in a World Cup
Qualifying match in June.
His Moroccan national manager Zaki Badou unsympathetically told the
media, "He made the right choice. I believe he should have quit
earlier. He is not young anymore and I cannot see him in my future
plans."
Jermain
Defoe looks likely to start for England against Denmark in the
upcoming friendly as Michael Owen will be suspended for the match
against Wales and the England manager Sven Goran Eriksson wants to
look at Defoe playing up front alongside Wayne Rooney.

million was the amount offered to Newcastle United by Spurs for
Jermaine Jenas according to the Daily Express, who say the bid needs to
be increased.
The
Daily Mirror reckon it was £6 million and that the Magpies have told
Spurs to double that if they want the midfielder.
No
sum is put on the offer, but the Daily Mail say that talks between the
two clubs are in progress to secure the midfielder's services for
Tottenham.
The
Express also claims that Pedro Mendes ha said he does not want to
leave Tottenham despite the rumours of interest from Feyenoord.
While
West Bromwich Albion are believed to have put in a £3 million bid
for Wigan Athletic striker Nathan Ellington, it is rumoured that both
Spurs and West ham United are watching the situation.
Mounir
El Hamdaoui could be missing from the reserve side for a couple of
weeks after badly spraining an ankle in last night's game against
Watford reserves.

Youth finished third in the Eurofoot tournament in Belgium. In
their group games they drew with Club Bruges 0-0, beat Djurgaarden of
Stockholm 1-0, beat Cercle Brugge 3-1, drew 1-1 with PSV Eindhoven and
beat Germinal Beerschot 5-0. This took Spurs throught o a
semi-final with Anderlecht, which the Belgian side won 2-0. In

Newcastle
United have rejected an offer made by Tottenham Hotspur for their
midfielder Jermaine Jenas.
The
Daily Mirror claim that the latest side to show an interest in Fredi
Kanoute is Sevilla, who have money to spend after selling Baptista to
Real Madrid. It is said that Martin Jol is reluctant to sell the
Mali international, but he has also been linked to Everton, Newcastle
United and West Ham United.
Jol
revealed that West Ham made a bid for the striker two weeks ago to
Daniel Levy and they were knocked back, but the Irons might return
with a £6 million bid for Kanoute.
Spurs
Reserves opened their account against Watford Reserves tonight at
Stevenage Borough FC with a 4-1 win thanks to goals from Kanoute,

Madrid defender Cosmin Contra is considering legal action over a story

Spurs
completed the free transfer of Edgar Davids from Internazionale today.
The midfielder joins Tottenham on a two year deal. He said that
he was close to joining Tottenham two years ago and is looking forward
to the new challenge of playing in the Premiership, giving someone for
the younger Spurs players to look up to. Martin Jol is also keen
to utilise the former Ajax, Juventus and Barcelona player's experience
and has said that Davids is the player he had been hoping to bring in
to White Hart Lane. Davids dispelled any doubts about his
fitness and said he was looking forward to playing with the rest of
the Spurs players and that he thought that it could be possible to
challenge for a Champions League place.
The
London Evening Standard report that Davids was concerned about the
security after the recent bombings, but decided that the game should
go on and he was happy to play in London.
Martin
Jol reassured Spurs fans on the captaincy of the side by saying
"Ledley King will remain club captain and team captain as long as
he stays here."
Pedro
Mendes is reported to be a target for Feyenoord according to a story
on the Sky Sports website. They watched him in the friendly at
Reading and would be keen to take the Portuguese midfielder, should he
want regular first team football, the media in Holland are reporting.
Former
Spurs goalkeeper Chris Day has joined Oldham Athletic on a free
transfer from Queens Park Rangers.
