  A busy transfer deadline day saw Tottenham Hotspur a hive of activity.
  Tottenham signed England international Jermaine Jenas from Newcastle United for around £7 million-£8 million.  The midfielder has passed his medical yesterday and the five year deal was completed by 10.30 a.m. this morning.
  Spurs have also agreed to buy Lee Young-Pyo from PSV Eindhoven.  The Korean full-back will join on a four year contract subject to receiving a work permit.
  French club Rennes claim to have signed Spurs defender Erik Edman on a three-year contract for about £2 million.
  Everton are supposedly seeking to sign Spurs striker Robbie Keane and are reported as being in talks with him.
  Reto Ziegler has joined SV Hamburg on a season long loan.
  Spurs raised their offer for Livorno striker Cristiano Lucarelli to £3.4 million, but were still unable to tempt the Serie A side to sell him.  The player is a little annoyed that this fee is five times that paid to Torino to take him to Livorno and he may want to ask the chairman why he was not allowed to move on.
  Reserve goalkeeper Rob Burch has gone to Bristol City on a month's loan.
  Mido's appeal against his red card handed out in last Saturday's match has been rejected and he has been charged with improper conduct for not leaving the field quickly enough after being sent off.  He has until 18.00 p.m. to ask for a hearing to explain his conduct against Chelsea.
  Former Spurs youngster John Sutton has left Millwall to join St. Mirren.
  Former Spurs defender Stuart Nethercott has gone on loan to Woking from Wycombe Wanderers.

  The Independent claims Spurs will sign Jermaine Jenas for £8 million before the transfer deadline.
  Tottenham are being linked with Olympique Lyonnais striker Sidney Govou.  A deal for the player may be agreed on Wednesday, but some other English clubs are interested and may pip Spurs to the forward's signature.
  Spurs are also being linked to a move for the 21 year old Togo and Monaco forward Emmanuel Adebayor.
  Apparently French club Rennes are looking at signing Erik Edman from Tottenham.
  Blackburn Rovers defender Andy Todd has accepted the charge of violent conduct for a head butt on Andy Reid in the game last week at Ewood Park and will have a three match ban to serve.

  Young-Pyo Lee is said to be in London having a medical and to finalise his move to Tottenham, which may cost the club £3 million, as PSV are saying that his valuation has gone up since he first joined them and the clause was put in his contract.
  Mido is to appeal against his red card handed out on Saturday to try and get it rescinded.
  The Daily Mail and the Daily Express claim Mido could face an additional one match ban for failing to leave the field in Saturday's match against Chelsea when he was sent off.
  Further to that Reserve team coach Clive Allen could face disciplinary action following comments he made to the referee at half-time in the same game.  Bang goes the Fair Play league then !!
  The Daily Mirror claims Spurs have had an £8 million bid for Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse turned down.  Chairman Daniel Levy feels the Merseyside club might still do business as they might need to raise funds to bring in Michael Owen.
  The Daily Star and the Daily Mirror both claim Spurs are trying to persuade Chelsea to release their forward Carlton Cole for £2 million.
  Dirk Kuyt has said he will now stay at Feyenoord after deciding that he could not leave such a beautiful club.
  Spurs are being linked with two Olympique Lyonnais strikers - Sidney Govou and Sylvain Wiltord.
  Livorno have claimed that they turned down a bid by Tottenham for their 29 year old striker Cristiano Lucarelli, because they say they have built the team around him and do not want to sell him.
  PSV Eindhoven have joined the chase for Reto Ziegler on a season long loan.
  Robbie Keane and Andy Reid have been included in the Republic of Ireland squad for their World Cup qualifier against France on September 7th.

  Spurs are said to be close to signing Jermaine Jenas from Newcastle United for £7 million plus an extra £1 million dependant on appearances.  However, the News of the World say that Newcastle are holding out for £1 million more.  The People claim that Tottenham have "pulled the plug" on their interest in the player.
  The same newspaper claims that the £2 million transfer for PSV Eindhoven's Young-Pyo Lee is on, with a fee having been agreed with the Dutch club.
  And the NoTW says that Spurs will pay for almost all of the deal for the Korean full back by selling Michael Brown to Everton for £1.75 million.
  The Daily Star Sunday reckon Spurs are lining up an offer for Portsmouth's winger Lomana LuaLua.
  TeamTalk's website claim that Tottenham might make a bid for Blackburn Rovers winger Morten Gamst Pedersen before the transfer deadline.  If Spurs do go for the Norwegian wide-man, they could be joined in the chase by Everton, Fulham, Manchester City and Aston Villa.
  Carlton Cole is Tottenham's £4 million target according to the Sunday Mirror.
  ... and the same paper reckons that Dirk Kuyt will stay at Feynoord until the January transfer window.
  Hamburg want to take Reto Ziegler on a season long loan from Tottenham.
  Paul Robinson, Michael Carrick and Jermain Defoe have all been included in the England squad for the World Cup qualifying games with Wales and Northern Ireland.  Former Spurs defender Luke Young has also been included in the squad.

  Spurs were cheated out of their game with Chelsea today by some truly appalling refereeing decisions by the match official Rob Styles and ended up losing 0-2 at White Hart Lane.  For a match report, click here.  For reaction, click here.
  Grimsby is Tottenham's destination in the second round of the Carling Cup to be played during the week starting September 19th.
  Livorno striker Cristiano Lucarelli has said that he is wanted by Spurs and Newcastle United.  The 29 year old, who topped the Serie A scorers chart last season, said that he had heard about the interest from England, but that he will speak to the chairman of the club about staying there.
  Spurs Under-18s lost 1-2 at home to Manchester United this morning.  Radwan Ahmed scored the goal.

  The Daily Mail is saying that Newcastle United are demanding Spurs increase their £7 million offer for midfielder Jermaine Jenas.
  Following his head butt on Andy Reid on Wednesday, Blackburn Rovers defender Andy Todd has been charged by the FA with violent conduct after reviewing a videotape of the game.
  TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : - Teemu Tainio is out for Tottenham with a hip problem and Anthony Gardner is suffering with a bad back.  Aaron Lennon may come in on the right of midfield for Spurs.
  CHELSEA TEAM NEWS : - Wayne Bridge (knee), Arjen Robben (foot) and Ricardo Carvalho (calf) all miss tomorrow's match with injury.  Peter Cech and Paulo Ferreira are likely to be re-installed in the starting XI after being rested in midweek.

  Reading want to sign Calum Davenport on loan from Tottenham.
  Edgar Davids has been left out of the Holland squad for their World Cup qualifying matches.  Manager Marco van Basten said that as he had only played one and a half games in six months, he was not on the short-list for the squad, but he remains on the long-list as van Basten recognises the talents the Spurs midfielder has.
  The Daily Mirror claims that Spurs were close to signing Dean Ashton just before he signed an extension to his Norwich City contract.

  Head Coach Martin Jol has signed a new contract extension with the club and this keeps the Dutchman on for three years with the club from his appointment last November, plus he option of an extra year after that.
  It is rumoured that Jermaine Jenas will join Spurs in the next 24 hours for £9 million according to the Daily Mirror.
  Teemu Tainio suffered an injury to his hip in last night's match and could be out for Saturday's visit by Chelsea.

  Spurs are reported to have agreed a fee of £1.36 million to sign PSV Eindhoven's Korean defender Young-Pyo Lee.  The 28 year old's fee could rise to £2 million on activating certain conditions and his arrival will provide competition for the left back slot for Erik Edman.
  TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : - Michael Brown returns to the Spurs squad, but still missing are Routledge, King, Huddlestone, Pamarot, El Hamdaoui and Davis - all injured.
  BLACKBURN ROVERS TEAM NEWS : - Defender Aaron Makoena might have to settle for a place on the bench, but Shefi Kuqi should retain his place up front.  Matt Jansen, Paul Dickov, Craig Bellamy and Matt Derbyshire will all be missing either through injury or suspension.
  The Daily Mirror claim that Tottenham will complete the £8 million signing of Jermaine Jenas this week.
  The Daily Star say that Spurs will miss out on signing Feyenoord's Dutch striker Dirk Kuyt as he needs to be playing every week to make their World Cup squad.
  Everton manager David Moyes claims that he had a £10 million bid for Kuyt rejected.

  Both Chelsea and Liverpool are said to be interested in Spurs transfer target Dirk Kuyt of Feyenoord.
  After Spurs were linked with a move for Milan Baros, it now appears he will join Aston Villa for £6 million.
  Martin Jol has re-iterated that Robbie Keane is a part of his plans for the future and believes that Michael Brown's return to fitness will bolster the midfield..
  Former Spurs midfielder Darren Anderton has left Birmingham City to join former manager Glenn Hoddle at Wolverhampton Wanderers on a one year loan.

  Wayne Routledge will be missing from the Spurs side for a couple of months with the fracture of a bone in his foot.  The original date of return has been reassessed and the speedy winger could be out for up to eight weeks now.
  The Sunday People reports that Spurs are interested in signing Liverpool striker Milan Baros as a replacement for the departed Fredi Kanoute.
  Dirk Kuyt has told the media that he would be keen to play in the Premiership and admires Martin Jol.  He told the News of The World that Spurs are a big team and the most important thing about the club was that Martin Jol was the manager.
  The Sunday Mirror reckon Feyenoord have told Tottenham to up their bid for the striker from £7 million to £12 million.
  The People claim that Manchester City are ready to battle with Spurs for the singing of Kuyt.
  Fredi Kanoute scored one of the five goals for Sevilla that beat Celta Vigo today.

  Martin Jol has admitted that Dirk Kuyt is one of the players on his hit list to replace Fredi Kanoute.  The Spurs Head Coach said that he was happy that Tottenham did a good deal for Kanoute and that the money could go towards buying a better player than the Mali international.  Jol admitted that Spurs could have had Dean Ashton last season, but went for Mido instead and might not now bid for the Norwich City striker.
  PSV Eindhoven are said to be ready to make a decision over the future of their Korean defender Young-Pyo Lee by the end of this week.  Spurs are linked with a £5 million move for the left back in the Daily Mirror today.
  TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : - Edgar Davids, Robbie Keane and Aaron Lennon are all in the squad for tomorrow's match with Middlesbrough.  Erik Edman was to train today to see if he could overcome his Achilles injury.
  MIDDLESBROUGH TEAM NEWS: - Young central defender Matthew Bates may make his debut for injury-hit Boro.
  Luton Town manager Mike Newell has admitted his interest in taking Phil Ifil on loan.
  Talking of loans, Marton Fulop is actively seeking a loan spell now that Paul Robinson has regained full fitness.  The Hungarian reserve keeper has said he would not be allowed to go out on loan while Robbo was injured, but now several Championship clubs are interested.  He would also be happy to return to Chesterfield, where he was on loan for two months last season.

  Fredi Kanoute completed his move to La Liga club Sevilla this morning after passing a medical.  The Mali international has signed a four year deal.  Kanoute told his website that he was sad to be leaving Spurs and the friends he has at the club, but when he knew the club were willing to sell him, it was best that he went.  Fredi added that the squad can do well this season, but the biggest problem might be keeping the big squad content.
  A number of newspapers report that Spurs will move for Dirk Kuyt of Feyenoord to replace Kanoute.  A £8.15 million bid has supposedly been turned down and the Dutch club are holding out for £12 million that Chelsea paid for Arjen Robben.
  Tottenham are reported to be considering a move for Argentinian defensive midfielder Aldo Duscher of Deportivo La Coruna.  The 26 year old could be an option as Spurs are reluctant to spend in excess  of £10 million on Jermaine Jenas according to the Sky Sports website.
  TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : - Edgar Davids could make his debut on Saturday against Middlesbrough, while Wayne Routledge will miss the match with a tress fracture of his foot.  Erik Edman is a major doubt for Saturday's game against Middlesbrough as he picked up an Achilles injury in yesterday's Sweden match.
  MIDDLESBROUGH TEAM NEWS: - Emanuel Pogatetz will not be able to make his Boro after all, as the Russian FA have not yet announced his punishment after breaking an opponent's leg last season.  Szilard Nemeth is definitely out with an ankle injury, while

  Fredi Kanoute has agreed to sign for Sevilla of Spain for a reported £4.4 million fee on a four year deal.  He will complete his signing after a medical with the La Liga club.
  Middlesbrough will be without striker Szilard Nemeth on Saturday after injuring his ankle against Liverpool on Saturday, ruling him out for three weeks it says on the Boro website, but defender Emanuel Pogatetz's six month ban was reduced to eight matches, which ended last week, so he will be eligible to play on Saturday at White Hart Lane.
  Paul Robinson and Jermain Defoe played the first half of England's 1-4 defeat in Denmark tonight.  The score was 0-0 when they left the field.  Michael Carrick did not appear from the bench.
  Andy Reid scored for the Republic of Ireland tonight in their 1-2 defeat by Italy in an international friendly, before being substituted in the 74th minute.
  Teemu Tainio played for Finland in their 3-0 World Cup qualifying group win over Macedonia tonight.
  Erik Edman was substituted after 45 minutes of Sweden's win over the Czech Republic in a friendly.
  Mido played for Egypt in their 0-2 defeat against Portugal (with ex-Spurs striker Helder Postiga scoring) in their friendly international.

  Rumours of Robbie Keane being a part of a deal to bring Newcastle United midfielder Jermaine Jenas to Spurs are growing.  £5 million will be the monetary balance to accompany Keano if the deal goes through.  However, the report in the Telegraph stated that Keane is not eager to leave Tottenham.
  Calum Davenport captained England Under-12s to a 1-0 victory in Denmark tonight.  Michael Dawson played alongside his Spurs team-mate in the match.

  Today's offer for Jermaine Jenas appears to be £5 million plus Robbie Keane according to TeamTalk.
  Robbie Keane has been ruled out of the Republic of Ireland's friendly against Italy on Wednesday with an ankle injury.
  Norwich City manager Nigel Worthington has dismissed speculation linking him with a loan move for Phil Ifil.
  Spurs Reserves won 2-0 away to Chelsea Reserves tonight at Aldershot, with Phil Ifil and Johnnie Jackson scoring.

  The Sunday People run a story saying Spurs will have to pay £10 million cash if they want to sign Newcastle United midfielder Jermaine Jenas and say that Middlesbrough are also interested in the England player.
  The Sunday Mirror propose a swap deal with Boro using Mark Viduka as part of the deal to take Jenas to the Riverside stadium.
  The News of the World thinks that Spurs will use Fredi Kanoute to secure the singing of Jermaine Jenas should Newcastle United fail to get Michael Owen.  The paper claims that Spurs are willing to make a bid of £8 million plus Fredi if the England and Real Madrid striker Owen does not join the Magpies.  Kanoute seems resigned to leave Spurs, as he has heard all the rumours and feels that if the right price is bid, he will be on his way, although he still wants a say in where he goes.
  The same paper has issued an apology to Frank Arnesen about the story they ran a few weeks back detailing his derogatory remarks about Tottenham Hotspur.
  Thimothee Atouba says he misses his friends at Tottenham and the Premiership, although he feels he has made the right move to Hamburg.  The Cameroon international added that he believes that Spurs could finish third with the signing of Edgar Davids and if they believe in themselves.
  Calum Davenport is reported as being a target for Reading in the News of the World.
  Another story in the NoTW is about Phil Ifil, who is being tracked by Luton Town and Norwich City for a loan spell, as he has been told he can go on for a six month period to get more first team experience.

  Paul Robinson, Michael Carrick and Jermain Defoe have been name din the England squad to face Denmark on Wednesday in a friendly in Copenhagen.
  Paul Dickov was sent off for Blackburn Rovers at West Ham this afternoon and Ugo Ehiogu saw red against Liverpool, which may have implications for their team, who both face Spurs in the next ten days.

  TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : - Spurs will be without six players for tomorrow's match at Portsmouth.  Ledley King, Edgar Davids, Tom Huddlestone, Mounir El Hamdaoui, Sean Davis, Noe Pamarot and Michael Brown will not be available through injury.
  PORTSMOUTH TEAM NEWS : -  Pompey defenders
Linvoy Primus and Aliou Cisse will miss the game with injuries but Sander Westerveld looks set to make his debut in goal.  New striker Azar Karadas will play in attack despite picking up a knee injury in training.
  Martin Jol has revealed that he is happy to have Fredi Kanoute at Spurs and although a club did make an enquiry about his availability last week, the Head Coach had not had Kanoute visit him to talk to him, which he normally did if he had a problem.  Jol said that he was pleased with the striker's contribution last season as he was the big man up front that he used the most.
  Noureddine Naybet has retired from international football after earning over 100 caps for Morocco and captaining the country for 10 years.  Tottenham Hotspur defender Nourredine Naybet has retired from international football.  The defender said, "I believe it is the right time to do so.  I am not happy with what is happening with the national team anymore.  I respect my coach and I know my limits, but he said I was injured, which was not true.  The current situation inside the squad does not encourage me to play on, especially when personal conflicts get mixed up with professional relations - now I have to concentrate on my career with the Spurs," he went on.  The row seems to have blown up after he was omitted from the Morocco side to face Kenya in a World Cup Qualifying match in June.
His Moroccan national manager Zaki Badou unsympathetically told the media, "He made the right choice. I believe he should have quit earlier. He is not young anymore and I cannot see him in my future plans."
  Jermain Defoe looks likely to start for England against Denmark in the upcoming friendly as Michael Owen will be suspended for the match against Wales and the England manager Sven Goran Eriksson wants to look at Defoe playing up front alongside Wayne Rooney.

  Ledley King will not take part in the opening Premier League fixture away at Portsmouth on Saturday, as he is suffering with a groin strain.
  Alan Pardew has turned his transfer attention away from Fredi Kanoute after being afraid of the fans reaction should he sign him.  The West Ham United manager will now look at other strikers after being out off Kanoute by the negative feeling of fans who thought it would not be appropriate for him to return to Upton Park.  Who would have thought WHU would be the first club run by fans ??
  Meanwhile Fredi has revealed on his own website that Spurs want to sell him, but he is in no hurry to leave and will only do so if the move suits him, otherwise he is happy to stay at White Hart Lane.
  Tottenham youngsters Calum Davenport, Michael Dawson, Tom Huddlestone and Wayne Routledge have all been named in the squad for the England Under-21 friendly against Denmark on 16th August.
  The Daily Mirror continues to link Portsmouth winger Lomano LuaLua with a move to Spurs, as Pompey manager Alain Perrin says that he might have to sell before he can bring in further reinforcements at Fratton Park.
  Spurs transfer target Rodolph Douala has been the subject of bids from Middlesbrough and Newcastle United, but Sporting Lisbon have rejected the offers for the Cameroon international winger.

  Kaiserslautern are in pole position to sign 24 year old Pas Tehran and Iranian international midfielder Javad Nekounam but interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Galatasaray might price the Bundesliga side out of the running.
  Spurs are said to be offering Fredi Kanoute as part of the deal to bring 22 year old midfielder Jermain Jenas to White Hart Lane from Newcastle United according to the Daily Express.
  Whereas the Sun reckon it is Sevilla who will get Mali striker Kanoute ahead of West Ham United.

  MEHSTG's no-spin story ... Manchester City's full-time goalkeeping coach Tim Flowers believes that David James will get the England number one position back in place of Paul Robinson.  "I see no reason why he won't get back in - and I have told him so. I truly believe he is England's number one.  "His form last season was outstanding. He made very few mistakes and certainly won us a lot of points. A repeat of that form will certainly put a lot of pressure on Robinson."  They say you have to be a bit mad to be a goalkeeper.

  £8.5 million was the amount offered to Newcastle United by Spurs for Jermaine Jenas according to the Daily Express, who say the bid needs to be increased.
  The Daily Mirror reckon it was £6 million and that the Magpies have told Spurs to double that if they want the midfielder.
  No sum is put on the offer, but the Daily Mail say that talks between the two clubs are in progress to secure the midfielder's services for Tottenham.
  The Express also claims that Pedro Mendes ha said he does not want to leave Tottenham despite the rumours of interest from Feyenoord.
  While West Bromwich Albion are believed to have put in a £3 million bid for Wigan Athletic striker Nathan Ellington, it is rumoured that both Spurs and West ham United are watching the situation.
  Mounir El Hamdaoui could be missing from the reserve side for a couple of weeks after badly spraining an ankle in last night's game against Watford reserves.
  Spurs Youth finished third in the Eurofoot tournament in Belgium.  In their group games they drew with Club Bruges 0-0, beat Djurgaarden of Stockholm 1-0, beat Cercle Brugge 3-1, drew 1-1 with PSV Eindhoven and beat Germinal Beerschot 5-0.  This took Spurs throught o a semi-final with Anderlecht, which the Belgian side won 2-0.  In the third and fourth play-off place, Tottenham again faced Beerschot and won 3-0.

  Newcastle United have rejected an offer made by Tottenham Hotspur for their midfielder Jermaine Jenas.
  The Daily Mirror claim that the latest side to show an interest in Fredi Kanoute is Sevilla, who have money to spend after selling Baptista to Real Madrid.  It is said that Martin Jol is reluctant to sell the Mali international, but he has also been linked to Everton, Newcastle United and West Ham United.
  Jol revealed that West Ham made a bid for the striker two weeks ago to Daniel Levy and they were knocked back, but the Irons might return with a £6 million bid for Kanoute.
  Spurs Reserves opened their account against Watford Reserves tonight at Stevenage Borough FC with a 4-1 win thanks to goals from Kanoute, Lennon, Davenport and Barnard.

  Martin Jol has hinted that Spurs might go English in appointing a new Director of Football, as he confirmed that there is too much for one man to do in football these days and that the club will seek to keep their current structure.
  The People newspaper claim that Spurs will offer Fredi Kanoute to Newcastle United as part of a deal to bring Jermaine Jenas to White Hart Lane.
  Graeme Souness has said that if a bid of around £15 million came in for Jenas, the club would have to think about it.

  Tottenham appear to be the newspapers favourite to sign Jermaine Jeans should he be allowed to leave Newcastle United and £10 million could be the price they allow him to go for.
  The Daily Mirror claims that Daniel Levy is touting Michael Brown around for £3.5 million to top up Spurs' fund to buy Jenas.  Wigan Athletic, Manchester City and Birmingham City are all unwilling to offer that much.
  West Ham United and Manchester City are both reluctant to pay big money for Frederic Kanoute.  The Irons are said to be ready to sign a striker, but they will have to increase their £5 million bid, while City don't want to go as high as the first figure.

  Rumours in many sources say that Jermaine Jenas is set to hand in a transfer request and that would spark a £10 million  battle between Spurs, Manchester United and Arsenal for the 22 year old Newcastle United and England  midfielder's services.  The player's agent has said he is not unhappy at Newcastle, but feels as though he is living in a goldfish bowl.

  The same paper reckons that Everton are interested in buying Fredi Kanoute from Spurs.
  Atletico Madrid defender Cosmin Contra is considering legal action over a story run in a Sunday tabloid in England where he was reported as saying that Edgar Davids is a psycho.  The Romanian international denies that he spoke to the News of the World reporter and he has put the matter into the hands of his lawyer, according to the Sky Sports website.

  Spurs completed the free transfer of Edgar Davids from Internazionale today.  The midfielder joins Tottenham on a two year deal.  He said that he was close to joining Tottenham two years ago and is looking forward to the new challenge of playing in the Premiership, giving someone for the younger Spurs players to look up to.  Martin Jol is also keen to utilise the former Ajax, Juventus and Barcelona player's experience and has said that Davids is the player he had been hoping to bring in to White Hart Lane.  Davids dispelled any doubts about his fitness and said he was looking forward to playing with the rest of the Spurs players and that he thought that it could be possible to challenge for a Champions League place.
  The London Evening Standard report that Davids was concerned about the security after the recent bombings, but decided that the game should go on and he was happy to play in London.
  Martin Jol reassured Spurs fans on the captaincy of the side by saying "Ledley King will remain club captain and team captain as long as he stays here."
  Pedro Mendes is reported to be a target for Feyenoord according to a story on the Sky Sports website.  They watched him in the friendly at Reading and would be keen to take the Portuguese midfielder, should he want regular first team football, the media in Holland are reporting.
  Former Spurs goalkeeper Chris Day has joined Oldham Athletic on a free transfer from Queens Park Rangers.
  Former Spurs youth midfielder Allan Tait has joined Canvey Island from Crawley Town for £2,000.

  Spurs are considering a £12 million bid for Feyenoord striker Dirk Kuyt according to the Daily Express.
  A sigh of relief spread through the Spurs supporting community when it was announced this morning that Andy Johnson has signed an extended contract with Crystal Palace.  Tottenham were one fo the clubs who showed interest in buying him should the Eagles wanted to let him go.
