Charlton Athletic would say "no thanks" if Tottenham came knocking for their manager Alan Curbishey.  The club Chief Executive said that Curbishley has a unique place in football as he has built up the whole club, not just the team and is ingrained in Charlton, so would not be interested in the post should it be offered to him.
Today's new candidate for the Tottenham manager's job is Birmingham City's Steve Bruce.
Rumours today suggest the Reading manager's post is Glenn Hoddle's if he wants it.
Raddy Antic said today that he will not be the second choice for the Spurs job even though he has not heard from anyone at the club.
Rivaldo has changed his mind and will say at AC Milan anyway, thus ruling out a move to England for the time being.

Tottenham drew 0-0 against Manchester City at the City of Manchester stadium this afternoon.  Click here for a match report and here for reaction.
Martin O'Neill is widely tipped to be the next manager of Tottenham Hotspur according to most of the Sunday papers.  He is said to be one of only three candidates the board have on their short-list, with Graeme Souness and Alan Curbishley the others.  O'Neill apparently has a £500,000 compensation clause in his contract for any club thinking of taking him from Celtic and this would not prove a problem for Tottenham.  When he arrives is the subject of some dispute in the news and it could be as soon as two weeks or the end of the season, with David Pleat taking charge until then.  Reasons for his coming to Tottenham include the fact that he has always wanted to manage Spurs to the fact that his wife is from the South-East and they have a family home there.
Harry Redknapp has said that if he got the Tottenham job, he would bring Teddy Sheringham to be his assistant manager. In a move blatantly designed to try and curry favour with Spurs fans, the Portsmouth boss said it would be a tough decision if he was offered the position, but might like to link up with Fredi Kanoute, who he signed for West Ham United and Robbie Keane, who he tried to buy at Upton Park.  His chances of having that opportunity are minimal as one paper described the Tottenham board as laughing off the claims that they were about to appoint him as the new man in charge.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Blondel has hit out at Glenn Hoddle saying he only spoke to him twice in the 18 months he has been at the club.  The Belgian international said that Hoddle had little to do with him and the caretaker manager David Pleat was much closer to the players, which would be good for the team.
Former Spurs midfielder Steffen Freund has also had a go at Hoddle saying he has no tactical ability to change during a game if things are not going well.  Freund said that when Hoddle arrived, the players were impressed with his style, but as his time went on, they felt that he was too attack minded and could not make the necessary alterations to the way the team were playing if things went against them.  He also felt that he was unable to cope with the views held by the experienced players at the club, who would not blindly accept the instructions he handed down to the side.
Christian Ziege could be playing for the first team again next weekend.  His recovery has come along well in training and he will play against Ipswich Town reserves on Wednesday to get another match under his belt before making it back to the Premiership.
It looks as though Rivaldo has set his heart on a move to Chelsea, where he might be able to get his pension.  He has also been contacted by Newcastle United and Middlesbrough, but it looks like Spurs might not enter the race for the Brazilian midfielder this time around.

Spurs have been drawn at home in the Carling Cup against West Ham United.  The game will be played on Tuesday 28th or Wednesday 29th October.
Daniel Levy will apparently call a board meeting on his return from honeymoon and is making Martin O'Neill his number one target as the new Spurs manager.  He will ask Celtic for formal permission to talk to their manager, who revealed that he did speak to Levy and David Pleat in the summer, but only about Tottenham's attempts to buy Henrik Larsson and Craig Beattie.  A big bid for Beattie was rejected, while Spurs failed to follow up their interest in the Swedish striker.
Glenn Hoddle's sacking has thrown Chris Perry's future into confusion.  the defender is on loan at Charlton Athletic until 4th October, but said he will have to speak to David Pleat and Alan Curbishley to see if he can extend his happy Valley stay.
TOTTENHAM TEAM NEWS : - The Spurs website informs us that Paul Konchesky returns to the squad as he was not available to play against Coventry City in case he would be cup-tied for Charlton Athletic and Bobby Zamora is back after a stomach upset ruled him out of the Carling Cup tie.

Tottenham Under-19s beat Chelsea 1-0 at Spurs Lodge today with Andy Barcham scoring the goal.

Friday  26.9.2003   (For other Spurs history on this day click here)

Martin O'Neill said he is happy at Celtic until the chairman tells him that they no longer want him.  The Irishman told the media that he has a Champions League match to look forward to and barring a shocking loss at Hibernian, he thought he would be in charge of Celtic for the European match and for more to come.
Long linked with Tottenham, Rivaldo is now a free agent after having had his contract terminated by AC Milan.
Alan Curbishley has denied that he wants to move to Tottenham as the new manager again !!

Robbie Keane dedicated last night's win to the out-going manger saying that the team had not played as well as they know they can at the start of the season and hopefully that this will kick start the season for them..

Rohan Ricketts said his contract ends next summer, so he can talk to foreign clubs in January, although he would like to hear from Spurs.  The former Arsenal youth player said that the goal against Coventry City last night meant a lot to him and Glenn Hoddle was also good to him, giving him his first games in the first team, but he hoped he had done enough to prove to David Pleat that he can stay in the side.
Pleat revealed on the Spurs website that Bobby Zamora missed out of being in the squad yesterday because of a stomach complaint.
The London Evening Standard has reported that reputed "life-long Spurs fan" John Gregory and USA national coach Bruce Arena are among the prospective candidates for the manager's job at the Lane.  However, they feel that Jurgen Klinsmann will not be among the people chasing the post, but only because his children are too young and settled in California.
Another interested in the post is Gianluca Vialli, who said he would speak to Tottenham if they approached him and thought he was the right man for the job.
The paper also reports that the future of sports psychologist John Syer is being debated by the board.  It was some of his techniques, which apparently turned some of the players against Hoddle.
The Standard reckons Hoddle and Gorman went to pick up their things from the club yesterday, but were unable to say goodbye to the players as they had all gone to travel up to the game at Coventry.
The official website has announced a change to the reserves home match against Watford which has been moved from Monday October 13 to Wednesday October 15.  Kick off will be at 7.00 p.m. at Stevenage Borough's Broadhall Way ground.

Unemployed after taking Real Madrid to the La Liga title, Vincente Del Bosque is another name mentioned in relation to filling Glenn Hoddle's old role.
Another who has come out and said he ants the job is Miroslav Blazevic, the Croatian World Cup 1998 manager, who took his country to third place.  He said he has respect for the honesty of the Premiership and recognises Tottenham great tradition.  He might bring former West Ham United defender and World Cup semi-final cheat, Slaven Bilic with him.
Meanwhile our former manager Glenn Hoddle is interesting Reading, where an old goalkeeper he had at Swindon Town is now Director of Football.  Another former team-mate of Hoddle, this time from when he was at Spurs, Peter Taylor, has turned down the job at the Madjeski stadium.
Christian Ziege thought the sacking of Glenn Hoddle was inevitable, saying that the "bungled" start to the season made the board's decision obvious in football terms.
An unidentified player has told the London Evening Standard that the players were often confused by Hoddle's tactical changes and the increasing frequency of them.
Jamie Redknapp has been advised to take a month's break to rest the knock he took on his knee in the SCBC game.  It was the same right knee that he had trouble with at Liverpool and there are fears that it may be a long term injury.

Tuesday  23.9.2003   (For other Spurs history on this day click here)

Spurs are being linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen's former manager Claus "Sideshow Bob" Topmoller.
David Pleat has not ruled himself out of the running for the Spurs manager's job on a  permanent basis.
The Mirror put Alan Curbishley as someone who has indicated he would want the job and with a clause in his contract saying any club who agrees to pay the compensation required, there might be few complications in taking him on.
The London Evening Standard propose current PSV boss Gus Hiddink.
Former Middlesbrough manager Bryan Robson is putting himself up for the job.
For some reason the Aberdeen Chief Executive has said Glasgow giants managers McLeish and O'Neill would have too much to lose if they took the Tottenham post.  He reasons that it would be easier to get into the Champions League through the SPL than the English counterpart.  So, we ask, why settle for second best North of the border then ??
Defender Stephen Kelly has gone on loan to Watford for one month.
Former keeper Neil Sullivan has been telling the world that players did not like Glenn Hoddle and his man-management techniques, which meant that they did not go out and play for him in matches.  The Scot now with Chelsea said that Hoddle would not talk to players and would be set in his decisions about them (i.e. not talking to them if they fell out of favour, but then having to when injuries required them to play).
Sergei Rebrov would like to return to Tottenham now Glenn Hoddle has left as he feels he might be able to resurrect his career under another manager at White Hart Lane.
Tomorrow's opposing manager Gary McAllister said that Spurs have bowed to pressure and sacked the manager too soon.  He went on to say that his respect for Glenn was undimmed and to midfielders of his era, Glenn was their favourite.

Glasgow Rangers have been quoted as saying that Alex McLeish will not be going anywhere and he has shaken hands on a new contract at Ibrox, which will be tied up in the next couple of weeks.
David Ginola says he would love the job at Tottenham and would be good at it as he is sensitive.  The former Spurs winger told the Press that he would use psychology to get to know the players and boost their confidence. He said "I am Tottenham" and that he would love to be an ambassador for the club.
Graeme Souness said that there are not many jobs better than his one at Blackburn Rovers and that he wasn't aware of being linked to other jobs during the weekend.  So, not a categorical denial of interest, although he said he enjoyed working with the people he saw every day and was happy at Blackburn.
Charlton Athletic manager Alan Curbishley is being linked in some quarters.
Harry Redknapp has ruled himself out of the running for the job (but was he ever in it anyway ?).  He said it is a tough job and he hopes Hoddle gets back into the game with John Gorman soon, as the game needs people like them.  Redknapp senior said Jamie had been a bit down, as he got on well with Glenn and although he has been linked with the post, Harry said he liked everything about the set-up at Fratton Park and wasn't interested in the post at White Hart Lane.
Glenn Hoddle is said to be devastated by the loss of his Spurs manager's job, according to John Gorman.  The former Spurs Assistant Manager told reporters that they were disappointed that they were now out of work, as they wanted to bring joy and success to the Spurs fans, but now won't get that chance.  He said that he had built a great squad, who, when fit, will do very well this season.  Hoddle wished Spurs well in the future as he said that both of them were Spurs through and through.  Hoddle said he was going to take some time out with his family and then hoped to get back into management at the highest level.  Glenn thanked he fans for their support throughout his time in charge.
It is reported that Hoddle will pick up a £1.25 million pay off for his sacking from the club.
Stand-in manager David Pleat says that the team have to forget the past and focus on the future starting with the Carling Cup tie at Coventry City tomorrow.  He said they all want the same things as the fans, so must start winning soon to generate some confidence.

... but then, in the next breath, it is said that they might go for Alex McLeish if they don't succeed in luring Antic to White Hart Lane.
The London Evening Standard, never missing a chance to put the boot in, report that Hoddle described a defensive midfielder he wanted cash for to the board and Daniel Levy is supposed to have said that the player sounded just like Tim Sherwood.  In which case, I would hope that he said no to Hod having the money !!
Hoddle said that the squad have analysed the match last week and have identified the need to cutout individual mistakes and for the team to take collective responsibility for defending.  The Spurs manager thinks that the team need one result to turn around the poor start to the season.

Daniel Levy has revealed that he spoke to Roman Abramovich in last year before the Russian bought into Chelsea.  The meeting, thought by the Telegraph to be in April, was arranged by agent Pini Zahavi and was to seek Levy's view on the European football market.  The Spurs chairman claims that at not time did they discuss the purchase of a Premiership club and although later Zahavi came back to ask how much ENIC would want to sell Spurs, the figure given to him (thought to be £50 million for ENIC's third of the company) was enough to put him off.

Should Glenn Hoddle get the sack as Spurs manager, Celtic boss Martin O'Neill is the prime candidate to take over the White Hart Lane hot seat.  He has a rolling one year contract, but can leave in January without breaking the terms of his contract, so Daniel Levy will have to decide when he makes the decision to replace Hoddle if the rumours about his future are true.  Being away for the next three weeks, the London Evening Standard promote the idea that Levy will decide in the October international break.  O'Neill is said to be desperate to return to the Premiership and would welcome an approach to take over at Spurs.

Friday  12.9.2003   (For other Spurs history on this day click here)

Ex-Spurs midfielder Steffen Freund has criticised Glenn Hoddle for having a personal problem with him.  He said that any on pitch disagreements should be forgotten off the field, but believed that Hoddle didn't let go of them and thus disliked him for that, even though he was playing well.  In the London Evening Standard, Freund said his footballing philosophy differed from Hoddle's in that he believed that there should be a solid defensive base, while the former England manager likes to play "nice football" in an attacking style.
Neil Sullivan has hit out at Hoddle too.  The former Tottenham keeper has said that he was told by the manager that he would not judge him on reserve matches, as he was playing against "a load of kids half the time" and that he did not look sharp enough in training.  The Scottish goalie said he knew he would not be retained at the end of his contract and decided to move on.  He also said Hoddle had to come up with the goods soon or his head would be on the block.  However, elsewhere he is quoted as saying he didn't blame Hoddle for his departure from the Lane, as he was one of George Graham's buys.
Gus Poyet backed the Tottenham manager though.  Speaking on Sky Sports News, he said that the boss had to make some hard decisions and Gus accepted them - like not being in the squad for tomorrow's match at Stamford Bridge.  The Uruguayan midfielder added that he does not have a problem with the manager, unlike most of the players who have left lately.
Glenn Hoddle himself has said that he knows the team and style he wants to play, but because of injuries he has been denied the possibility to do so.  He hoped that he would be allowed time to turn things around, as that would not be possible to do overnight and was the result of 20 years of frustration at the club.
On loan from Internazionale, Stephane Dalmat has told the media that he wants to start enjoying playing football again.  The French midfielder said he had fun in his two reserve matches.  He said he had refused approaches from Middlesbrough and Lazio and he thinks his style will suit the English game, where there is physical contact, lots of space and the "technical calculation" is not so important !!
TOTTENHAM TEAM NEWS : - Gus Poyet is fit, but has been left out by the manager.  Stephane Dalmat and Paul Konchesky are both included in the squad.

Wednesday  10.9.2003   (For other Spurs history on this day click here)

Spurs are considering a move to the new Olympic Stadium planned for Stratford, East London should plans to expand White Hart Lane and the provision of a tube station not be realised.  Chairman Daniel Levy is reported in the London Evening Standard to be ready to quit the Tottenham area and move the club to a purpose built stadium with a 55,000 capacity.  Other options are said to be being considered, but sharing with Arsenal at Ashburton Grove is not thought to be one of them.  Wembley could still be on the cards if anything else fails to materialise.  The underground link was dismissed by London Underground as too expensive at £50 million, but London Mayor Ken Livingston has asked for the decision to be looked into and the matter might be re-opened should it be found to have been wrongly decided.  Spurs will also put in planning applications for 4,000 extra seats in the West and in the East stands taking the capacity to nearly 44,000, but these will only be implemented should the transport issue be resolved.
Arsenal however, have said they would be happy for Spurs to share their planned new ground, but acknowledge that the fans might be against the idea.  The South London club also imagined that local residents would object and that planning permission might be difficult to gain with all the associated problems of a ground being used every week.
