   The Sunday Mirror claims that Tottenham are willing to wait until the start of the summer to make Jose Mourinho their new manager.  They report that Spurs see the ex-Chelsea boss as the man to take them the next step into the Champions League qualifying places in the Premier League.  The News of the World differ in their opinion of who will take over when Martin Jol leaves the club, which is the one thing the Sunday papers are all agreed on.  They think that Blackburn Rovers' manager Mark Hughes is the new favourite within the club to replace the Dutch Head Coach at White Hart Lane.
   The Sunday Mirror carries a report that Ledley King has suffered a set-back in his recovery from his knee surgery and will not be fit before Christmas.
   The Sunday People reckon Tottenham are eyeing
up the next young player to be produced by SCBC in the shape of Nathan Dyer, a pacy 19 year old winger.

   Spurs have been drawn at home to Blackpool in the Fourth round of the League Cup today.  The ties have to be played in the week starting Monday 29th October.

   Daniel Levy was speaking on Setanta's Friday Night Football show tonight and said that while there were elements o truth in some of the speculation surrounding Martin Jol's job, he wanted the Dutchman to do well at the club and told him he has to come up with the results to match both men's ambitions.
   Spurs have loaned out Phil Ifil to SCBC for an initial three month period.

   Tottenham beat Middlesbrough 2-0 in the Third Round of the League Cup at White Hart Lane tonight.  For a match report, click here.  Reaction to follow.
  
The UEFA Cup First Round Second Leg match in Cyprus next week will now kick off at 5.45 p.m. local time (3.45 p.m. UK time) at the home club's request, rather than the originally scheduled 9.00 p.m. local time (7.00 p.m. UK time).
   Former Spurs striker Jurgen Klinsmann has let Chelsea and Tottenham know that he is ready to go back into management again.

   The Daily Mirror carries a large back page headline stating that Martin Jol has already lined himself up with a £4 million pay-off for losing his job as Head Coach at Spurs and other sources run the same story.  The Daily Express take time off from featuring copy about Princess Diana's death and the price of houses in the Uk to claim that Tottenham are planning to pay Jose Mourinho a £10 million compensation package to tempt him into breaking his agreement with Chelsea not to manage another Premier League team this season.  This has all been pooh-poohed by Daniel Levy, who said in a statement on the Spurs website that no meeting had been held, no pay-off agreed and that Damien Comolli was not in Barcelona striking a deal to bring Frank Rijkaard to White hart Lane as the next Head Coach, but in fact was in a much more exotic location .. .watching SCBC play Barnsley.
   TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : -  Ledley King looks like he is the only Spurs player out injured, with Jermain Defoe and Gareth Bale supposedly pushing for a place in the starting line-up.
   MIDDLESBROUGH TEAM NEWS : -
  Gary O'Neil is cup-tied, so will not be eligible, while an ankle injury rules Tuncay out, with Mido and Jeremie Aladiere both missing as they are hamstrung.

The Reserves, fielding a large number of Academy players, lost 2-3 in a friendly against an experienced Ipswich Town team at Portman Road tonight..

  MEHSTG's spin story ... John Terry could be in trouble for trying to get the red card out of the referee's hand when Jon Obi-Mikel was sent off at Old Trafford on Sunday.  I am not sure why, as I thought Terry refereed most of the games he played in.

   Talks of crisis meetings in the London Evening Standard have proved to be untrue, as Spurs denied the proposed summit to discuss claims that Martin Jol said he wanted to leave because he was fed up with people being offered with his job.  The club said Martin Jol was the Head Coach and he had been out on the training ground with the players that morning, with no plans for a meeting.  Jol came out and said Daniel Levy had always backed him and wanted him at the club next season.

   Daniel Levy is alleged to have contacted Jose Mourinho five time by phone while he was negotiating his leaving package with Chelsea to offer him the Martin Jol's Head Coach's post at White Hart Lane, including a willingness to meet his £5.2 million a year.  salary.   While it is believed that the West London club made Mourinho sign a deal barring him from taking over at another Premier League club this season, with the departing manager hinting he might seek employment in Spain or Italy, the Daily Mirror reports that Mourinho's agent has implied to Spurs that the manager might be willing to return to London next summer. 
   News reaches us of the passing away of Johnny Gavin the former Spurs winger of the 1950s on Tuesday 18th September.  Our condolences go out to his family and friends.
  
Tottenham's Academy side beat Millwall 2-0 today with David Hutton and Dean Parrett scoring for Spurs.

   The Daily Express and The Times claim that Spurs will make a move for deposed Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho to take over from Martin Jol .. who is still Head Coach at White hart Lane at the moment.
   TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : -  Anthony Gardner will be missing as he continues to suffer from an ankle injury and Ledley King is still not ready to return just yet. Wayne Routledge also joins the list of knee injury victims.
   BOLTON WANDERERS TEAM NEWS : -  Andy O'Brien looks like he might return from injury to start the match, while Swedish winger Christian Wilhelmsson could start for the Trotters.

The latest bunch of OPTA stats out show that Jermaine Jenas is the Premiership player who has made most tackles and that Dimitar Berbatov the striker who has been caught offside the most.  Tottenham are third from bottom in the accuracy table with only 34% of their shots on target.

   The Sun claims that the young Ghana striker Macauley Chrisantus is likely to choose Arsenal as his English club rather than Spurs.
   TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : -  Anthony Gardner has picked up an ankle injury in training, but Benoit Assou-Ekotto will be fit for inclusion in the squad after overcoming his knee surgery.

  MEHSTG's no-spin story ... Arsenal youngster Armand Traore was arrested at Saturday's match for turning up at the turnstiles with a knuckle-duster.  He was unaware this was a problem in England, as a spokesman said that "the laws are different in France."

   Martin Jol's Head Coach position is still the topic of much discussion, with Juande Ramos claiming he would like to try management abroad one day and England is one of his favoured destinations, with it being a question of when and not if, should you believe some of his comments today.  Meanwhile in the US, Jurgen Klinsmann is supposedly too big to manage Spurs, as we are not in the Champions League.  Or so said a source close to the former German national manager.
   The Sun claim that Tottenham have offered £1.5 million for Ghana's Under-17 World Cup top goalscoring forward Macauley Chrisantus, who can sign outside the transfer window because he is not under contract to a club .
  
Reserve midfielder Jamie O'Hara has had his loan spell at Millwall extended by two months until the end of November.

   Spurs Head Coach Martin Jol has five weeks of four or five games, depending on which paper you read, to save his job.  Despite rumours of Jol threatening Jermain Defoe with rotting in the reserves should he not sign a new contract, the England striker has decided to stay at the club.  Some people are reading into this the fact that Jol may not be at the club much longer and Defoe is awaiting a new manager to impress.
   Spurs Reserves drew 1-1 with Chelsea Reserves at Brentford FC tonight, with Andy Barcham scoring the Tottenham goal.

   Spurs are among a few clubs watching 18 year old French Second Division Libourne-Saint-Seurin and Burkino Faso midfielder Charles Kabore, who is available for £500,000.
   The News of the World claim that Martin Jol had a training ground bust-up with Jermain Defoe over his reluctance to sign a new contract and the paper reckons that the board are becoming concerned, with the resulting conclusion reached that he will depart the club in the near future.
   Pascal Chimbonda's agent, Willie McKay,
has told the Sunday People that he gave the Spurs full-back an £18,000 loan as he was a bit "short of money".

   Spurs Under-18s beat Norwich City 6-1 in the Premier Academy League today.  Jonathan Obika scored a hat-trick, while David Hutton grabbed a brace and Daniel Hutchins got one goal.

   Benoit Assou-Ekotto has suffered some swelling to his knee, from which he was recovering from surgery and he will now see another specialist to assess the situation.
   TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR TEAM NEWS : -
 Aaron Lennon might be ready to start for the fist time this season, while he could be joined in the 16 by Darren Bent, Anthony Gardner and Michael Dawson who have all overcome injury.  Ledley King remains the long-term injury that Spurs have to do without..
  
ARSENAL : -  Manuel Almunia looks likely to keep goal as Jens Lehmann struggles after being given the elbow.  Sorry, suffering an elbow injury.  Bacary Sagna is fit for selection, as is Gilberto Silva and Lassana Diarra, while William Gallas and Emmanuel Eboue are ruled out with injuries.  Phillipe Senderos is suspended.
   Spurs have announced a partnership agreement with South African side SuperSport United, with the club's respective academies working together

   The Guardian reports that Tottenham are complaining to the Police that details of the questioning of Pascal Chimbonda was leaked to the press.
   Former Spurs striker Michael Malcolm has been released by Stockport County and has joined Rushden and DIamonds

   The Independent reports that Pascal Chimbonda has been arrested in connection with investigations into corruption in football.  The report says he may face charges of fraud, although neither Wigan Athletic nor Spurs are thought to be implicated in the case.  The Police say a 28 year old man had been arrested but released on bail to re-appear in October.  They did not confirm or deny that the man may have been Chimbonda.

   The Sun appears to be encouraging Martin Jol to lose his job through an FA Disciplinary charge as they claim he is about to "gamble of playing Aaron Lennon" against Arsenal on Saturday.
   Paul Robinson was in goal for England as they recorded a 3-0 win over Russia at Wembley in their Euro 2008 qualifying group match.
   Two goals from Dimitar Berbatov helped Bulgaria to a 3-0 win over Luxembourg in the Euro 2008 qualifier in Sofia.
   Finland
drew 0-0 with Poland in another Euro 2008 game in Helsinki, with Teemu Tainio featuring for the Finns.
  
Robbie Keane played for the Republic of Ireland in a Euro 2008 qualifying  tempestuous game in Prague against the Czech Republic, which the home side won 1-0.
   Captain Younes Kaboul lead the French Under-21 side to a 2-0 victory over Malta U21 in their Euro 2008 Under-21 championship qualifier.
  
Northern Ireland beat Luxembourg 2-1 in their qualifying match with Kieran McKenna playing for the winning side.

   The Daily Mirror reports that West Bromwich Albion are keen to contest the loan signing of Wayne Routledge with Sheffield United, although the Football 365 website reckons WBA are no longer interested in the winger.  Benfica are telling Tottenham that they will have to wait until the summer should they want Ronald Koeman to become their new manager.  The TeamTalk website reckons Spurs are watching Jussi Jaaskelainen, who will be available on a free transfer from Bolton Wanderers, where the 32 year old Finland keeper is not willing to sing a new contract with the Trotters.
   Tom Huddlestone scored for England Under-21s in their 2-0 win away in Bulgaria this afternoon as they maintained their 100% record in their Euro U21 2008 campaign.
   It was two goals scored for Tomas Pekhart as the Czech Republic Under-21 side demolished Liechtenstein 6-0 in an Euro U21 European Championship qualifying game.
  
Spurs fans will have to fight (not literally) for the 448 tickets available for the second leg of the UEFA Cup first round tie against Anothorsis of Famagsuta in Cyprus on October 4th.

   It's been a bit quiet on the manager's position at Tottenham, so the News of the World reckon that Marcello Lippi has made it known that he would be willing to take the post should it become vacant.  Not that the Sunday People think that will happen and if it does, Daniel Levy might not be there, as they claim he is ready to sell the club for £250 million.
   Spurs are being linked with a January transfer window move for Livorno goalkeeper Marco Amelia, who is said to be available for £5 million and will provide competition for Paul Robinson, reports in the Sunday Mirror say today.

   Paul Robinson kept a clean sheet for England in their 3-0 Euro 2008 qualifier against Israel at Wembley this evening.  Jermain Defoe was an unused substitute.
   Robbie Keane captained the Republic of Ireland in their 2-2 draw in Slovakia in their Euro 2008 qualifying match.
   Gareth Bale played for Wales in their 0-2 home defeat by Germany in the European Championship qualifying match tonight.
   Teemu Tainio was in the Finland side that drew 0-0 with Serbia today in a Euro 2008 qualifying match.
   Bulgaria lost 0-2 to Holland in their Euro
2008 tie with Dimitar Berbatov playing for the losing side.
   Tomas Pekhart scored for the Czech Republic Under-21s in their 1-1 draw with Armenia in the European Under-21 championship qualifying group match today

   Spurs under-18s were held 3-3 by West Ham United at Spurs Lodge this morning, with Kyle Fraser-Allen, Jake Livermore
and Alex Olsen scoring for Tottenham.

   Kieran McKenna was in the Northern Ireland U21 side that lost 0-3 to Germany in their Euro U21 2008 qualifier .
   Ben Alnwick was an unused substitute in England U21s 3-0 win in Montenegro tonight in a Euro U21 2008 qualifying match.  Tom Huddlestone was not included in the England 16, as he was suspended from playing in the match.
   Younes Kaboul skippered France Under-21s to a  1-0 win over Wales U21 in a Euro U21 2008 qualifying match.
  
Former Spurs midfielder and manager Ossie Ardiles has been appointed as Head Coach at Argentine club Huracan, where hew as a player when Tottenham signed him.

   The Daily Mirror reports that Wayne Routledge will leave Tottenham even though he turned down a move to Glasgow Celtic in the transfer window, while The Sun reveals that Spurs may be willing to let Phil Ifil go out on loan after Paul Stalteri decided to stay at the club and AFC Bournemouth are keen on taking him to give him some first team experience.  .
   Not wishing to let a day pass without building the pressure on Martin Jol, the Daily Mirror says his job is back on the brink of being taken from him after Saturday's 3-3 draw at Fulham.  Fighting back in the Sun, the Spurs Head Coach said "
I don't feel vulnerable because I'm a strong f*****. We've had so many good times but sometimes you get games like this. "
   The Reserves beat Birmingham City Reserves 1-0 at Brisbane Road tonight with the winning goal coming from Andy Barcham

   Spurs missed out with a late bid for Derby County's young talent Giles Barnes and the News of the World reveal that Glasgow Celtic missed out with a late move for Wayne Routledge on transfer deadline day.  The NoTW also reckon that Charlton Athletic want to take youth striker Terry Dixon on loan from Spurs.
   The Sunday Express claims that should Spurs move Martin Jol out of his Head Coach's position, he will be replaced by fellow Dutchman Ronald Koeman.

   The Spurs Academy side won 6-0 against in the FA Premier Academy League this morning at Spurs Lodge with a hat trick from Tomas Pekhart, with the other goals coming from Sam Cox, Alex Olsen and Jonathan Obika.
