A scurrilous story in the Daily Mirror reckons that a bust up behind the scenes by Michael Carrick over his exclusion from the first team might mean he is heading out of Spurs.  The story, which appears to be based on his upset at not being involved in last Saturday's League match against Bolton, has since been overtaken by circumstances, with him taking part in the League Cup tie on Wednesday and stating in an interview that he is looking forward to establishing himself in the Spurs side.  The Spurs website also carried a feature that flies in the face of the Mirror story, although Santini laid down the law by saying that whether players cost a lot of money or were internationals, it was him who picked the starting XI".

Simon Davies has said that Jacques Santini's methods have been welcomed at Tottenham, even though he keeps the players on their toes.  The Welsh international said that he still has a lot to prove personally and that the way the team are playing has shown that they are more difficult to beat rather than the "gung-ho" side who played in high scoring matches last season.  Davies revealed that Santini often names the side just hours before the match keeping his players fighting for their place in the team.
Santini himself has been talking about his aims for this season and because of the lack of depth in the squad he fears that a Champions League place will be beyond his young team and a more realistic aim is 5th to 10th in the table.
