A
scurrilous story in the Daily Mirror reckons that a bust up behind the
scenes by Michael Carrick over his exclusion from the first team might
mean he is heading out of Spurs. The story, which appears to be
based on his upset at not being involved in last Saturday's League
match against Bolton, has since been overtaken by circumstances, with
him taking part in the League Cup tie on Wednesday and stating in an
interview that he is looking forward to establishing himself in the
Spurs side. The Spurs website also carried a feature that flies
in the face of the Mirror story, although Santini laid down the law by
saying that whether players cost a lot of money or were
internationals, it was him who picked the starting XI".
TOTTENHAM
TEAM NEWS : - Sean Davis will continue in place of suspended Jamie
Redknapp, while Reto Ziegler looks likely to keep his place on the
left side of midfield. There is a problem at left back, where
Edman is still troubled by his head injury and that leaves Mauricio

probably ahead of the Argentinian after playing the two League Cup

Spurs
have announced their trading figures for the year ending 30 June 2004
and they tell of an operating loss of £1.189m, which is on a turnover
of £66.3m - some £200,000 less than in the previous year.
A profit of £9.7m was made before player deals, but the transfers of
five players, including Bobby Zamora, Jermain Defoe and Frederic
Kanoute, led to the loss. Daniel Levy said in the report that
the spending was "clearly unsustainable" but the new set-up
and the incoming players will change things at the club.
"Since the last year-end the club has seen a significant change
in the make-up of the first-team squad, with 17 players leaving and 21
new players joining. This is an unprecedented degree of change for any
club. The result of the above changes is that the club has spent
a total of £37.5m on transfer fees for new players since 1 July 2003.
Other items of interest were the loss of £0.9 million on media and
broadcasting income and a £1.4 million drop in merchandising revenue.
Sponsors income was down £0.8 million, but money from cup matches
through the turnstiles was up £1.9 million.
Erik
Edman has withdrawn from the Sweden squad ahead of their World Cup
qualifiers because of the concussion he suffered after clashing heads
with Tim Cahill in Saturday's match at Goodison.
Everton
manager David Moyes has said he does not wish Jamie Redknapp to
receive any more punishment over his tackle on Tim Cahill in
Saturday's match. The Scot said that any extra punishment will
not help his club, as if it was a red card offence, the sending off on
Saturday would have been the time to do it, leaving Everton to take on
ten man Spurs for the last half hour.
Redknapp
said he will fight any charge and possible ban arising from it, as he
is "not that kind of player".
Cahill
has had a scan which showed no long term damage and he could be fit in
two weeks ... neatly the period of time he would have been away with
Australia playing minnow countries in World Cup qualifying. So
Everton have actually got something out of this ... in an odd
way.

Rohan
Ricketts has made an impassioned plea for first team football to
Jacques Santini. In most of the papers today, they run a story
from RR saying he can add something different to the team and if he
was a Spurs fan, he would want to see himself in the side. I am
sure we all see ourselves playing for Tottenham, but his frustration
in not getting a run in the side, like he did when Hoddle was manager,
means he is hoping to persuade the coach to play him.
