  Frank Arnesen told the club website that Spurs had broached the subject of a discussion on contract terms with Jermain Defoe and not the other way around, as the newspapers had reported.  Spurs felt that it had been the right tie to recognise what Defoe had done for the team and they are keen to keep him at the club.
  Franck Queudrue's red card appeal has been dismissed by the FA and he will serve a three match ban for his tackle on Noe Pamarot on Sunday.
  Former Spurs defender Richard Gough has been appointed as the new manager of Scottish club Livingston.
  Former Spurs defender John Gorman has left Gillingham after one game as caretaker manager of the Championship club.

  The News of the World claims that Simon Davies could be sold in January as he does not feature in Martin Jol's plans for the future.
  The Sunday People newspaper reckon Spurs will move for Celtic's Neil Lennon in the transfer window.
  Czech striker Jan Koller is supposedly a target for both Spurs and Liverpool.
  Former Spurs assistant manager John Gorman is favourite to return to Wycombe Wanderers to take the vacant manager's post, empty since Tony Adams left.

  Martin Jol has let fly at John Gregory and Ian Dowie who were the "expert summarisers" at the Aston Villa v Spurs match on Sky TV.  The Spurs Head Coach said Gregory was "useless" at Aston Villa and that Ian Dowie is "not fit to mend his shoelace".  Gregory had criticised Spurs' tactics and Dowie said he could not understand why Mendes had been played on the right, when the Spurs coach had nobody else to play there.  Jol added that in Holland such criticism by fellow managers is not acceptable and that he wished he could say things about the pundits, but he had not been successful in this country yet. 
  Martin Jol also said
"After the success of the 1960s it took a long time for the club to be big again, as they were for a while in the 1980s," he added.  "Success takes a long time; I hope I am the one to help them turn the corner. I know the way to treat players and that's to be myself. I can be a likeable person, but also a crocodile."
  The Spurs Head Coach also seemed to rule out a move for Mark van Bommel.  Jol said he is not looking at midfielder and van Bommel is a midfielder, perhaps hinting that a winger is on his mind in the January sales.
  
Tottenham are rumoured to looking at 23 year old Feyenoord forward Thomas Buffel.  The Belgium international is interesting Club Brugge, Borussia Monchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund.

  The Sun rumours that Chelsea are planning a £15 million bid for Jermain Defoe in the January transfer window.  The story claimed that although the Spurs striker has four years left on his contract, he would jump at the chance of joining the West London club.  The Daily Mirror and the Daily Express also run the same rumour.  Later, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said there was not truth in the story.  The Spurs website also dismissed the story and said an offer of that size would not be accepted.
  The London Evening Standard claim that the striker is in a contract dispute with Spurs, as he earns just £15,000 and wants to be given a raise to take him nearer to other top earners at the club who get £40,000 per week.  Spurs said there is not clause in his contract to renegotiate the deal on reaching a certain number of England appearances, but reiterated he has a long contract and it is too early to discuss changing it.  The newspaper reckon that the player might want to leave if no solution is found.
  TOTTENHAM TEAM NEWS : - Simon Davies has a virus which will stop him playing on Sunday, while Erik Edman will be allowed to prove his fitness tomorrow in training.
  Tottenham are taking the 20 year old Iceland striker Emil Hallfredsson on trial for a second time.  The highly rated player who can also play wide is still interesting Everton and Feyenoord, although both offers made by them have not yet been accepted.  
  The Daily Record speculates that former Tottenham defender Richard Gough will be appointed as the new manager of Livingston.
  In the Daily Mail, former Spurs Director fo Football David Pleat is reported as working for Leeds United as a consultant giving advice to the club's board on the signing of new players.
  Unattached former Spurs youth defender Ijah Anderson has joined Swansea City.

  The Daily Mirror claim that Glenn Hoddle is being lined up for the Portsmouth manager's job, but seeing as how he had a bad time of doing that task under a Director of Football at Spurs, would he go to Pompey in the same set-up ?
  Former Spurs midfielder Micky Hazard has taken over the role of manager of Crystal Palace's Under-16 side.
  The club have given prior notification that the escalators are being worked on at Seven Sisters Victoria Line station and will be closed for 13 months.  This will affect the exit on the Seven Sisters Road (the part going up to Finsbury Park - where the British Rail station can be accessed), but the exit from the High Road will be accessible.

  OTHER NEWS ... Former QPR defender Terrell Forbes has been cleared of rape of a 15 year old girl, along with five other young footballers, because the testimony of the victim was unreliable ... The Daily Star's reporting of the alleged "roasting" of a young woman by Titus Bramble and Carlton Cole (among others) has been slammed by a judge today.  He said in court that the newspaper's coverage could have "seriously impeded or prejudiced" the case had it not been dropped ... Brian Barwick - former Head of Sport at BBC and ITV will become the FA's Chief Executive in January ...

  Nourredine Naybet has denied using the word 'crisis' in relation to Tottenham's current situation, claiming the word got found in translation.  The Moroccan defender clarified his meaning by saying it was a bad spell the club were in, but they could turn it around.
  PSV Eindhoven claim they have received no bids for midfielder Mark van Bommel as yet.
  Former Spurs defender Mauricio Taricco has had his West Ham United contract terminated by mutual consent.  on his debut, he only lasted 27 minutes before tearing a hamstring that will now keep him out for two months and he asked the club to annul the deal, which they agreed to.  Bizarre !!
  Spurs Hospitality team has won the Overall Premiership and the Overall Football Hospitality awards at the first Hospitality awards ceremony in Birmingham.

  OTHER NEWS ... Harry Redknapp resigns as Portsmouth manager ... Chelsea drew 0-0 with Paris St. Germain, Celtic drew 1-1 in Barcelona and Arsenal drew 1-1 with PSV Eindhoven, but had Lauren and Vieira sent off ... Jason Perryman, a Blackburn Rovers fan, has been fined £1,000 and banned from all the country's football grounds for five years for making monkey chants at Dwight Yorke at Saturday's game ...

  MEHSTG's no-spin story ...  while British justice has seen the Blackburn fan banned just four days after the event, Luis Aragones' comments about Thierry Henry and about British Colonialism have been considered by the anti-violence committee of the Spanish Government, but they cannot take any action yet, as they are awaiting the appointment of the new president of the Spanish FA.

  Erik Edman has an Achilles problem after last night's match at Villa Park and Jermain Defoe is suffering from a stomach virus, but both hope to be fit for Sunday's match at home to Middlesbrough.
  Sparta Rotterdam midfielder Ricky van den Bergh has attracted the interest of Tottenham, as well as Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Barnsley.  From the continent, Anderlecht, Club Brugge, Panathinaikos, Nurnberg, Perugia and AZ Alkmaar have all had representatives watching the player who has scored 13 goals this season, while American MLS outfit Chicago Fire have put in a bid for him, but it fell a long way short of the 500,000 Sparta want for the midfielder.
  Nourredine Naybet has said Spurs are not a good side and are currently in crisis
Tottenham's Youth side have been drawn to play Nottingham Forest in the FA Youth Cup 3rd Round and the tie will be played at White Hart Lane on Tuesday 7th December, with a 7 p.m. kick off .The game will be finished on the night with extra time and penalties if required.
  It is reported that Sunderland are watching former Spurs midfielder Peter Gain, who is currently with Lincoln City.
  Former Spurs defender and assistant manager John Gorman has taken over as manager of Gillingham temporarily following the resignation of Andy Hessenthaler.

  Reports today once again seem to confirm Mark van Bommel's transfer to Real Madrid despite what he said about joining Spurs at the weekend..

  Many of the Sunday papers are linking Tottenham with a move for Portsmouth's Nigerian striker Ayebengi Yakubu.  A deal worth around £7 million would include Fredi Kanoute as a make-weight in the deal and the figure quoted is one that has to be made public because of a clause in the player's contract with his old club Maccabi Haifa.
  Other papers claim that at long last, Mark van Bommel will be a Spurs player in January, with £700,000 being paid to PSV Eindhoven before his contract expires in the summer.  A pre-contract deal could be signed in the next few weeks and the player said he is excited about the thought of joining Spurs.  Real Madrid and other clubs are also said to be interested in the 27 year old midfielder, but Arnesen and Jol are both admired by van Bommel, so he might chose Spurs ... but then we have heard that before.
  The Sunday Times reveal that Tottenham have approached Paul Barber, who used to be the FA's marketing director, to take over the running of the club's commercial activities.  This would allow Daniel Levy to concentrate on more strategic matters.
  The Daily Star say David Moyes wants Robbie Keane at Everton, but Spurs have put a £7 million asking price on the Irish record goalscorer.

  TOTTENHAM TEAM NEWS : - Thimothee Atouba is available for selection after coming through Cameroon's friendly international with Germany in midweek.  Anthony Gardner is still troubled by a foot injury and so Calum Davenport might be added to the squad.  Ledley King is expected to be OK with his knee injury that kept him out of the England squad in Spain.
  ASTON VILLA TEAM NEWS : - The absence of Darius Vassell and Martin Laursen will mean they hope to have Gareth Barry back, while Peter Whittingham is expected to keep out Thomas Hitzlsperger.

  Spurs defenders are in the news today, with Philip Ifil signing his first professional contract for the club.
  However, he started in the England Under-19s 1-0 win over France, but was sent off for two bookable offences late in the second half.
  Mauricio Taricco, on the other hand, has joined the Spurs players rest home at West Ham United on a free transfer.  Having played 149 times for Spurs the former Ipswich Town defender leaves on a free transfer.  Martin Jol said that the Argentine was not happy at the club and he will not have unhappy players at Spurs.
  Recently resigned Spurs Head Coach Jacques Santini might soon be back in football after reports in the French press link him with a move to take over the manager's position at Lens, who are just outside the relegation zone.
  Coming back from Coventry City, where he spent a month on loan, Rohan Ricketts has noticed a few changes that have taken place while he has been gone and is not upset that Martin Jol is now in charge of the First team.  The midfielder said that Jol always gave him advice and encouragement as assistant coach and he looked forward to resuming his Spurs career under him.
  Martin Jol said today that the club are on the look-out for a player in the mould of Arjen Robben to give the team options in wide positions.  The Dutch coach said that Spurs could not afford a Damien Duff, but would need to look for young players who were able to be moulded into the sort of winger he wanted.
  Former Spurs youth midfielder David Hicks has been loaned by Northampton Town to Hornchurch.

  The Daily Star reckons rumours in the City say that Daniel Levy is looking to sell the club, rated at £29 million, for £50 million.
  Kasey Keller is thinking of returning home to the US of A after falling out of favour at Tottenham.  He said he will use his time on loan at SCBC as a chance to impress prospective buyers and see what happens in the January transfer window.

  Dean Richards has received good news from his brain scan, with doctors saying that the likelihood of him having a brain tumour is extremely low.  The defender said he now intends to get back playing for Spurs again.
  Central defender Calum Davenport has been recalled from his loan at West Ham United.
  Jermain Defoe came on as a substitute in England's 0-1 defeat in Madrid to Spain tonight.  Paul Robinson played the whole match and conceded, then saved a penalty.
  Thimothee Atouba played for Cameroon in their 0-3 defeat by Germany tonight.
  Erik Edman pulled out of Sweden's squad for their match in Scotland after injury.
  Midfielder Mark Hughes has joined Oldham Athletic on a month's loan.

  Rohan Ricketts has returned to Spurs after a month's loan at Coventry City.  The option to extend the loan was not taken up by the Sky Blues.
  Erik Edman has won the Swedish "Defender of the Year" award.
  Robbie Keane played for the Republic of Ireland tonight against Croatia at Lansdowne Road and scored the only goal of the game.
  
Republic of Ireland boss Brian Kerr is pleased with the appointment of Martin Jol as Head Coach and thinks Robbie Keane will benefit as a result.  Kerr thought Keane played too deep under Santini, sometimes being behind the right-back.
  Calum Davenport played as a 77th minute substitute for England Under-21s in their 0-2 defeat in Spain.

  Further news on Dean Richards in the media indicates that he has had two brain scans and there are fears he may have a brain tumour.  The central defender said that nothing had been identified yet, but there was an abnormality in the brain and he is getting on with his life while the matter is diagnosed, which he hopes will mean a clean bill of health for him.
  Former Spurs midfielder of the late 1960s Keith Weller died yesterday after a long illness.
  Ledley King has had to drop out of the England squad for the friendly against Spain because of an injury picked up in yesterday morning's derby match.
  The News of the World claim that Spurs are going for a £4 million bid for Borussia Dortmund's lanky Czech striker Jan Koller, who Santini said he made a last gasp attempt to buy in the summer.
  The Mail on Sunday run a story saying that Liverpool, Tottenham and Birmingham on the trail of highly-rated Glasgow Rangers midfield youngster Hamed Namouchi.
  The People reckon Frank Arnesen has Australia and Blackburn Rovers  wide man Brett Emerson as the one who he is set on for the January transfer window.
  The Daily Star jumps on a five day old bandwagon by sensationally claiming Spurs are still chasing PSV Eindhoven's Mark van Bommel.

  MEHSTG's spin story ... Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho said that he thought 5-4 was a hockey score and "so to get a result like that in a game of 11 against 11 is disgraceful. I did not see the game but the defenders were a disgrace."  The man has a sixth sense as well as being the most arrogant person outside Highbury.

  Jacques Santini has issued a statement saying that the reason he left Spurs was because he had a poor relationship with Sporting Director Frank Arnesen and did not know that he would be the coach of the first team and nothing else.  Club Chairman Daniel Levy has retaliated by saying that Santini gave personal reasons as the cause of his resignation and that he was being less than honest if he had underlying grounds for leaving.  Levy also said that Santini was made perfectly clear what his role would be before he joined the club.  The former French national manager claims that he did not understand the transfer policy and could not agree with Arnesen, stating he wanted an attacking midfielder and not a holding midfielder when the Dane signed Michael Carrick ... who looks like an attacking midfielder to me.

  Dean Richards' ear infection could cost him his football career.  The 30 year old defender may not be able to play again, as his balance is severely affected by the infection and a specialist's report next week will inform the Spurs medical staff as to what can be done for the ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers centre-half.
  Glenn Hoddle has said today that there is no truth in the rumours that he might be installed as manager at SCBC soon.

  Kasey Keller has gone on a month's loan to SCBC after the Premier League made a special dispensation to allow them a replacement goalie outside of the transfer window.

  Spurs will host Liverpool in the League Cup Fifth Round on Wednesday 1st December with the kick off at 7.45 p.m.
  Erik Edman is preparing to take SC Heerenveen to court to receive a pay-off he was supposed to get on leaving the club.  The Dutch side signed him on the cheap from AIK Stockholm and he was on low wages, with an understanding that when he left for a profit on the transfer fee, he would be compensated, but they have failed to come up with the money and Edman said he is happy to go to court to show what poor conditions he was on during his time in Holland.
  TOTTENHAM TEAM NEWS : - Stephen Kelly will miss the match on Saturday with a broken thumb and concussion, which he picked up in the match at Burnley.  Bunjevcevic, Davis and Atouba all miss out after being injured lately, but after 60 minutes in the reserves Erik Edman might return and Anthony Gardner also played in the same match, but not be up for a recall just yet.
  Former Spurs manager Glenn Hoddle looks like he might return to the New Dell, should Steve Wigley's SCBC side lose their local derby at the weekend.
  Calum Davenport has been selected for the England Under-21 squad to meet Spain next week.

  Spurs have been drawn to play Liverpool at home in the Fifth Round of the League Cup in the week starting Monday 29th November.
  Martin Jol has said that in two years we will have a fantastic team and will be challenging for silverware.  The new Head Coach said that there was pressure in taking the job, but he was used to it and that having played in many games as a player, he was used to that, although he cannot now affect the play.  he said he tells the players they are the best people to affect the play on the pitch. He did ask the fans to be realistic and patient as the team is still building towards the aim of everyone at the club.
  Spurs have taken 19-year-old Emil Hallfredsson from Icelandic club FH Hafnarfjordur on trial for four days.  The Iceland Under-21 striker looked likely to go to Everton, but the player has not agreed terms with the Toffees yet.  Feyenoord and Everton are still interested, but Spurs have leapt in to have a chance to see the player at close quarters.
  Spurs Reserves won 2-1 at Watford tonight with goals from Gayle - a Watford defender - and Johnnie Jackson.   Erik Edman played one hour of the match after his long lay-off with concussion and Anthony Gardner 75 minutes.
  The Sun claim that Ipswich Town are keen on Spurs defender Dean Richards.

  OTHER NEWS ... Stefan Postma will seek FIFA help in escaping from his Aston Villa hell, where they are asking £1 million for his services.  His agent will invoke the clause allowing players under 28 to have their fee decided by the value of the remainder of their contract ...

  MEHSTG's spin story ... The reintroduction of plastic surfaces into European football looks ready to be sanctioned by UEFA.  Perhaps they should think about a return to the silky materials of the 1908s though, as those shirts were much nicer !!
  MEHSTG's spin story 2 ... Former SCBC manager Dave Merrington has blasted chairman Rupert "The Bear" Lowe as being personally responsible for the "instability" at the club.  I never thought I would see the words "Rupert 'The Bear' Lowe" and "instability" in the same sentence.  Did you ??

  Calum Davenport might be staying at West Ham United if he gets his way.  The former Coventry City defender said he was enjoying it at Upton Park and would prefer to stay on in their first team than travel with Spurs and not play regularly.
  Goran Bunjevcevic will be out for a considerable amount of time after suffering acute compartment syndrome after a kick on the shin against Charlton Athletic.  The Spurs defender had lots of bleeding into his leg and suffered the same injury as Christian Ziege (also against Charlton) at Christmas in 2002.

  It is reported that former Spurs midfielder John Piercy has retired from football after failing to overcome injury.  He leaves Brighton and Hove Albion, where he has been since he left Tottenham.

  Martin Jol has been announced as the new Head Coach at Tottenham Hotspur.  He has two and a half season left on his contract and will step up into the post vacated on Friday by Jacques Santini.  For an exclusive interview with Martin, click here.
  The club also held it's AGM today and a report will follow soon.
  It was revealed though that Santini's problems were known about two months ago and although he did not reveal to the club what they were, he resigned his post and there will not be a pay-off for him.

  TOTTENHAM TEAM NEWS : - Martin Jol may start with Michael Carrick who made such an impact on the Charlton game when he came on as a substitute.
  The Daily Express reckons that Jacques Santini might have to pay back the rent on his flat after resigning at Spurs.  they also claim that Daniel Levy is under pressure to resign after the resignation of the French Head Coach.
  BURNLEY TEAM NEWS : - Michael Duff returns after a one-match ban, although James O'Connor is cup-tied.  On loan Richard Duffy could be selected and Graham Branch and John McGreal could be out of the match along with Richard Chaplow, Danny Coyne, Ian Moore, Frank Sinclair and Jean-Louis Valois.

  'Sir' Bill Nicholson's Memorial service was held at White Hart Lane this morning and was a moving tribute to the man who has made Tottenham Hotspur renowned throughout the world.  A report on the service will appear tomorrow.
  The newspapers almost all go with Martin Jol as the man who will lead Spurs on after Jacques Santini resigned.  There was even one story about his contract contains a clause saying that he has to be appointed manager if Santini left the club.
  The Sunday Express is alone in continuing the rumour that Spurs are after Celtic manager Martin O'Neill. 
  Frank Arnesen confirmed that there will be no £3 million pay-off for Jacques Santini after he quit Spurs. 
  The Mail on Sunday claims that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and striker Jermain Defoe's positions are in jeopardy after Santini's departure.  Why I am not sure. 
  Alan Curbishley has said he still has a job to do at Charlton after being linked with the Tottenham job.
  Glenn Hoddle has said he has turned West Bromwich Albion down to take over as their manager after discovering in discussions that he was not suited to the club.

  Jacques Santini has resigned as Head Coach of Tottenham Hotspur.  He has stated that it is for private reasons in his personal life and he said he has enjoyed his time at the club, hoping that the fans and the club continue to do well.
  Martin Jol takes charge of the side for the Charlton Athletic match and a statement will be made clarifying the future on Monday, when the club also holds it's AGM.
  TOTTENHAM TEAM NEWS : - Edson Silva Sousa has been added to the Spurs squad for tomorrow's match.  Erik Edman, Anthony Gardner, Thimothee Atouba and Sean Davis all miss the game. 
  Dean Marney has gone on loan to Gillingham for a month.
  The Daily Express says that Steed Malbranque has turned down his present club Fulham and also Spurs if he should leave Craven Cottage, as he wants to join a bigger club.

  Sean Davis will be out of action for three months after his knee operation yesterday.
  The Daily Mirror runs a story claiming that Fulham are interested in buying keeper Kasey Keller from Spurs to replace Edwin van der Sar, who will not be offered a new contract in the summer.
  Reserve striker Lee Barnard has gone on loan to Leyton Orient for one month.

  OTHER NEWS ... Adrian Mutu receives a seven month ban from football from the FA for testing positive for cocaine ...

  Sean Davis took a knock on his bad knee on Saturday playing against his old team Fulham and had surgery on it this afternoon.  The club website have said that it will see how he responds to it and then decide what rehabilitation he needs.  The midfielder is expected to be out of action for a month.
  The Sun claims that Spurs are keen on Chelsea's German central defender Robert Huth.  Newcastle United are also interested in the 20 year old.
  In other injury news, Dr. Charlotte Cowie told the Spurs website that Erik Edman is progressing after his concussion, Thimothee Atouba is doing well after having ankle ligament trouble and Anthony Gardner could be in the squad for Saturday's match having overcome some of his foot niggles.  There was no news of Dean Richards' ears though.

  OTHER NEWS ... Liverpool won 1-0 away at Deportivo La Coruna and Manchester United beat Sparta Prague 4-1 ...

  Eddie Sousa Silva said he was happy to be on the end of the crosses to score two goals for the reserves last night and said he is learning more how Lee Barnard plays and thinks the more they play together the better their understanding will get.
